Can I extend a 30-day tourist visa in Thailand if my passport has less than 6 months until expiry?

Is it possible to extend a 30 day tourist visa for 30 days when the passport will has just gone under the 6 month until expiry?

I know this can be a problem when leaving a country, but is it a problem for extending a short time?

Thanks for your advice :-)

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can extend a 30-day tourist visa in Thailand even if your passport has less than 6 months remaining until expiry. While there are concerns regarding passport validity when entering or exiting certain countries, extending a visa in this situation is generally possible.

Keep in mind that children under 15 cannot be fined for overstay and children under 18 cannot be banned for overstay.

So if they are under those ages there is no down side to them overstaying on the passport they're here on...

... Your answer is a great help!

As my son is a dual citizen. His current Thai visa is in the soon to expire passport. Could he stamp out from Thailand on that and enter a neighboring S/E Asian country on his 2nd non expiring passport?

You can ONLY switch passports by air, <- meaning you stamp out of the country on the passport that has the current entry stamp and stamp IN to another country on the other passport, then fly back in to thailand on the that passport.

You cannot change passports at land crossings.

It's not a problem leaving the country either as long as you're going back to what ever country your passport is from :O

What you're not gonna do is get into any neighboring S/E Asian countries on a passport with less than 6 months validity.

there is no problem getting a 30 day extension on a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp with less that 6 months left on your passport.
