Hi, I have 8 months left on my passport so I'm assuming should be fine to get a six month multiple entry tourist visa and for my first entry. But will it be an issue towards the end of this period when i re-enter to get another 60 days and I don't have the full 6 months remaining?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about entering Thailand with an 8-month passport validity while obtaining a six-month multiple entry tourist visa. Responses indicated that Thai immigration typically requires at least six months left on a passport for entry. While some users noted that border control may be lenient, airlines might deny boarding if they suspect entry might be refused. Suggestions included renewing the passport before applying for the visa, highlighting differences in renewal times in various countries, and sharing personal experiences with passport renewal.

sorry! I wanted to see if it was an option to use the old passport as the other one is getting full. Also, if they stop giving you visas at some point because you've had a lot before I though it might help if on different passports... so people's responses were helpful.

Thanks. I actually have another passport so can use that no worries. Just wanted to use the pages on the old one first. Thanks for all the help though :)

Don't know where you are from but I got my UK passport renewed in Pattaya, exactly 6 weeks turnaround

Here's a little tip. In the US it will take from 2-3 months to get your passport renewed. In Bangkok it takes from 2-3 weeks to get your passport renewed. Do it while you are here.

Yes great advice- poster should come in on Visa Exemption then get his passport renewed here. That's what I'd be doing. When new passport received look at getting METV.

The rules are that you must have 6 months left at the time of entry in to Thailand - regardless of what type of visa you have. However in general immigration usually won’t care (they could so no guarantee). However you may find that the airline refuse to let you board because in theory you could be denied entry and they get in trouble for that.

If you’re border bouncing by land less than 6 months may not be an issue, but probably best to fast track a new passport before you get your METV.

not true. Thailand allows entry andcwill stamp you in up until passport expiry date.

Look around forums and you will see other people also had the same experience. Happened to me. Happened to others. So unless you were denied entry by an IO for having less than 6 months, or have others denied entry into Thailand by an IO then you are the one who is wrong. Visa applications need 6 months, most airlines will deny boarding if less than 6 months, but border IO do not.

Fact

a source for that fact? Or just that it’s never happened to you personally? If the latter could it be that someone else on the planet has had a different experience?

A belief based on my experience and that of others. Airlines have their own rules. If border bouncing passport validity is the usual.

believe what you like. They could in theory deny you entry. They almost certainty won’t. if your passport expires prior to your allowed days by the visa then they’ll stamp you in to that date.

Your airline may well stop you. Numerous reports on the advice forums of that happening to people.
