TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, a TR visa can potentially be extended for 30 days, and after that, some immigration offices may allow for an additional 7-day extension if you apply for an 'extension denied' status. However, the policy can vary by location, such as in Phuket, where proof of exit from Thailand is required for the 7-day extension. It is important to note that having an 'extension denied' stamp could negatively impact future visa applications in other countries.

If you get the dreaded 7 day stamp, nothing is stopping you from going out of Thailand and applying for the 60 day SETV or the 6 month METV from either your passport country or a country you hold a residency in…good luck

Depends on the office. Some may allow a “extension denied” application after the 30 day extension and give you a stamp for 7 days. For example in Phuket you’d need to show a ticket out of Thailand within the 7 days to apply.

Not many people would want that stamp saying “extension of stay denied” stamp in their passport. Indeed there has been reports that other countries may view such a stamp in a bad light. I recall one report of someone being denied a visa to enter Russia because of such a stamp.

Not an issue to return to Thailand with one but could cause issues elsewhere.

where would you recommend going in Phuket? Phuket town, patong office or bangtao (not sure if they do extensions there)

Tourist visa or exempt entry extensions can be done in all 3 offices. The one near Bang Tao is at the Blue Tree water park.

They’d probably have the shortest wait times as it’s less busy there. Approx 20 minutes on a good day. Perhaps 40 in Patong and 1 hour in Town. Just guessing on the times as it really depends on the day you go and how many others are there before you.

do you happen to know the current required documents please? Is it tm30, photo and ticket out on the same date?

@Remus *****
for the “regular” 30 day extension you need a copy of your passport data page, copy of your entry stamp, copy of your visa (if you had one) and a passport photo. Fill out the TM7 form available at the office and 1,900 baht. TM30 or flight details not required
