A friend currently in Sri Lanka holding a passport from El Salvador is wanting to come to Phuket as a tourist and stay the allowed time and possibly extend as she is waiting to go to Australia. Would she need a visa? are there entry visa exemptions and in case of being allowed in on a exemption, what would the possible extentions?

thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A friend from El Salvador currently in Sri Lanka wants to visit Phuket as a tourist. She will need to obtain a visa prior to her arrival, as there are no visa exemptions or visa on arrival options available for Salvadoran passport holders. The recommended visa is a Single Entry Tourist Visa, which typically allows a stay of 60 days and can be extended for an additional 30 days based on tourism reasons. For more information on obtaining the visa, contacting the Thai consulate in Sri Lanka is advised.

She can not enter on a visa exempt or a visa on arrival. See attached for the current visa exempt, visa on arrival, and bilateral agreements.

She can get ONE 30 day extension of stay based on tourism. She MAY BE able to get other extension of stays, depending on her purpose in Thailand.

She needs a visa in advance. No visa-exempt, visa-waiver, or Visa On Arrival is available for El Salvador passport holders.

If she enters Thailand on Single Entry Tourist Visa, she will be stamped for 60days and she can apply for 30days tourism extension later.
