What are the current entry visa rules for US citizens traveling to Thailand from Europe?

I am a US citizen, flying in from Europe. I want to stay in Thailand for 6-8 weeks starting month.

I know the visas keep changing.

Do US passport holders still get 60 days on entry or 30? How is it working these days? If it is 30 days how can I extend?

I was in Thailand from September 2024 to middle of January 2025. I’m not sure if that will be a problem. And i was there during covid.

Seeing if there is anything I should know before coming back next month (September)

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen flying in from Europe can enter Thailand with a visa exemption for 60 days, requiring only a passport, a boarding card, and completion of the TDAC form within three days prior to arrival. Although the immigration officer may ask for proof of sufficient funds (20,000 baht or equivalent), this is rare if you have a standard travel history. Concerns about previous stays and extending the stay depend largely on the discretion of the immigration officer.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be agents.co.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

Please watch out for TDAC misinformation spread by fugitive Jesse Nickles and his many fake accounts on Quora, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms.

The going rate is visa exempt twice a year from what I have seen personally. Just fill out tdac 3 days before arrival. The dates of entering may not be an issue but rule of thumb is "its not an issue till it is"

It all depends on the flight staff and IO you get when you check in

From september 24 to january 25. It seems you have done visa run...though it should not give you any problem

Heather, don’t worry, you’ll be fine, if you’re worried just bring $500 with you, and if asked, just tell them the truth. Thailand does actually want tourists. 😀👍

i’m in Europe so I’m not quite sure how I’d bring US$500 but I could bring €500

Thank you

It’s 20,000 baht or the equivalent in any major currency. Doesn’t have to be USD, can be GBP, EUR, AUD etc. Just has to be cash IF asked.

thank you! I will grab that before I leave!

As explained in earlier comments you *could* be asked for these three proofs, although highly unlikely with your previous entry history.

No one here can guarantee anything as it’s up to discretion of the officer you hand your passport to.

If asked about funds it has to be in cash. 20k baht or equivalent in any major currency. A bank balance, phone app or credit card won’t suffice.

That said it’s incredibly rare to be asked. They can ask but almost certainly won’t unless you have an extensive history of back to back visa exempt or tourist visas and they think you are trying to play the system for a long term stay without any valid visa to do so.

got it! Thanks for letting me know.

The only time I did back-to-back Visa was during Covid for 2

years.

And last year, going into this year for a total of four months.

I was suggested to get a Fastrak visa but I think that might be beyond what I need.

Thanks for your information! I appreciate it

Visa exempt entries are for 60 days on entry. You need nothing other than your passport, last boarding card and a filed TDAC done within 3 days prior to arrival.

Thai Digital Arrival Card. Only use the link Stuart gave you: there are plenty of other enterprise willing to take your money for it. It's basically just digital details if your entry into the country, so they can better track overstays

ummm, onward flight / travel and where staying as well. 👌

I was asked for these less than a month ago.
Stuart *********
@Brian ********
well in theory you could be asked for

20,000 baht or equivalent in cash.

Proof of accommodation (for the first few nights)

An onward flight out of Thailand.

90+ percent of people aren’t asked for these - but you’re right they could be. Generally immigration will only ask for these if they are looking for a way to deny you entry.

@Stuart ********
its not a theory they do ask at times, the flight staff may ask for onward ticket, and the funding has been asked more regularly then before, so i dont know where you get "theory" from
Stuart *********
@Andrew *******
99% (a figure made up by me) of people entering Thailand visa exempt are not asked to show funds.

In theory you could be one of the 1%. Better odds than a coin toss that you won’t be though.

so if I don’t have the equivalent of 20,000 baht in cash on me I could be denied? Even if I have more than that in my bank account?

I’m just concerned as I left in January. And I keep hearing that they could deny me entry with me being there in the last year!

Thanks!

I will check out to TDAC too! Thanks

@Heather *****
In theory you could be but they only really invoke that requirement if your entry history is vast or you’re doing back to back entries and they’re looking for a way to deny you.

Very very very few people are ever asked to show cash.
