I went to the phuket immigration for my extension - but they said I can only do a 7 day extension because my visa is not a tourist visa. So Visa exemption cannot extend another 30 days?

I flew in to Phuket airport from Hong Kong and holds Hong Kong passport.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported that they could only get a 7-day extension on their visa due to entering Thailand under a visa waiver scheme for Hong Kong passport holders, rather than a visa exemption. Comments clarified that entries under this scheme can't be extended like a visa exempt entry, suggesting they apply for a 60-day tourist visa elsewhere, which can then be extended for an additional 30 days.

not in the eyes of Thai immigration.

Hong Kong is treated the same as China in Thailand. If you had applied for British Passport before 1997 or your parents had then no problem.

it's not, Hong Kong get visa waiver, China does not.

Go HK or elsewhere to apply for a 60day tourist visa. Only this one can extend for another 30day, and/or to proceed for non-O.

Unfortunately you did not enter “visa exempt” on a Hong Kong passport. You entered under the visa waiver scheme based on a bilateral agreement. They’ve been upped to 45 days now but you got 30 when you arrived (before Oct 1st).

These entries cannot be extended like a visa exempt entry can.

The 7 days you were offered is in actual fact a denial to approve an extension and they give you 7 days to leave.

Yes, the stamp did say I have to leave. Thanks - now I'm a bit clear - coz the immigration officer didn't bother to explain much.
