Slightly off topic but hoping some in this group will have been through the process of getting Childs 1st UK Passport. British Father married to the Thai mother in Thailand.

My question is whether or not the translation of the child's birth certificate must be certified by the Thai MFA (Ministry of foreign affairs)

Finally submitted application successfully. There is so much conflicting information on forums, the VFS service at Trendy Building and the UK HMPO. But a few hints here for anyone who might have been following this:

As the guys here pointed out. No need to have the Birth Certificate verified by the MFA

Don't need copies of the wifes and kids Tabien Baan (As I was advised to do) Proof of address can be pretty much anything. Utility bills, hospital notes.

I did encounter one issue though. I filled out the application form on the PDF on my computer. Printed it out and signed it. I checked this with the HMPO in the UK. However, in the land of smiles, it must be filled in by hand!

Thanks for the links Tod. I am familiar with this and have everything ready. Have been through the process myself a few times over the years and as recently as last year. The issues I am having are strictly related to supporting docs and certification of translations.

In Phuket. Document was translated by the hospital here right away and stamped by a translation service. Just that someone wrote on a forum I read that it had to be certified by the MFA

I got my son's UK passport in 2015. His Thai birth certificate was translated by a translation company in Ploen Chit. There was no need for verification from the Thai MFA. I doubt it's changed since then.

I had mine translated and then verified by the MFA. I was instructed to do so by the old consulate in Chiang Mai. I am British.

Just translated. Most, if not all, the translation companies around Ploen Chit or at the Trendy are fine.
