Hi, I’m hoping you can help with some advice. I have a UK degree that I need to certify a copy of to get a work permit and non-imm visa in Thailand. I am in Thailand currently on amnesty. How could I do this without having to send the document to the UK and going through the FCO & Thai embassy in London? The document needs to go to the Ministru of Foreign Affairs in Thailand for a stamp. I understand that Thai notary can’t do this for me. Any advice greatly appreciated...

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on how to certify a copy of their UK degree for a work permit and non-immigrant visa in Thailand while currently on amnesty. They are looking for alternatives to sending the document back to the UK for certification through the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Thai embassy. The conversation evolves as users question the necessity of certification and suggest alternative solutions like contacting the British Embassy or using friends in the UK for assistance. It also highlights the bureaucratic challenges and costs associated with the certification process.

Have the UK embassy in Bangkok verify the authenticity of the university and then get it translated at a Thai notary in Thailand.

Getting a copy of anything certified is difficult in my experience. I was always asked for originals. Is the issue with it being a copy?

Well your employer should pay for or at least contribute to those expenses really - they're absolutely desperate for ESL teachers in Thailand so you'e in a good bargaining position

That is strange. I was employed by a university in CNX and they just wanted to see the original. Who is that is asking for a certified copy, is it immigration?

well, apprently the agency needs the certified copy to give it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get a stamp there, for whatever reason

@Bogdan *******
sorry- what ‘agency’, the school employing you should handle all this?

I am employed by ‘TeachersforThailand’ which is a middle-man between me and the school where I am due to start working. Looks like universities have different requirements for the visas / work permits, from what I understand.

I see. What do they suggest? It is actually possible to get stuff notarised online

Yes but it seems that before the FCO, it needs to go to a notary public and after that, the Thai embassy in London needs to see it as well so the online route doesn’t work. All of these services basically cost £300 to have them done from Thailand which is

of my first salary which is absurd...

Good luck the embassy in London is useless always closed never open, automated phone sends you everywhere except where you need to be

Can the British Embassy certify it? They might know someone who can if they can't.

Is this for a teaching job or another type? I am on 2nd work permit 20 years apart and while i have shown degree certificates have never had to have them certified. My current WP was issued last October at the BOI One stop Shop?

it’s for a teaching job. The employer (an agency) asked to have the degree certificate certified basically...

OK I heard they do it for teaching jobs. For my last one they were more concerned with seeing my highest degree and CV. The degree etc was not certified. First time I got a CV 20 years ago they wanted to see everything including professional course certs.

But you have the original? It's the copy that's the problem I find.

I'm not sure there is any way around getting it legalised and certified in the Uk. I would advise sending it my courier (like DHL) to the UK Legalisation Office in Milton Keynes and then they send it to the Thai Embassy in London. The problem may be getting it sent back to you in Thailand. Do you have friends or family in the UK who can help?
