Do children need a visa to enter Thailand if they are under 14 years old?

Hello.

We are going to Bangkok for surgery for my third child. Getting Thai visas for the children is complicated as we live in Mexico and the kids were born in Thailand and a different country in Latin America, and currently the kids born in Thailand do not have residency here.

I know adults need visas, no problem there, but do the kids (the oldest is 6) need visas?

I have heard that children under 14 are not fined for overstay, but will receive "overstay" stickers in their passport that will complicate coming back.

Thank you for your time.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about visa requirements for their children, who are under 14, traveling to Thailand for surgery. They noted complications due to the children's diverse citizenship status and residency issues. Comments indicated that whether children need a visa depends on their passport type, with information suggesting that children traveling with parents generally do not require a visa. However, it's recommended to confirm with immigration authorities to ensure compliance and avoid complications.

next to info i got from a visa agency, kids under 14 or 15, who travel with parents or legal caretaker, dont really need visa to stay in Thailand with their parents/caretakers. To be sure, ask immigration?

What passports do you have?

Whether or not they can get in without a visa is purely dependant on what passport they have.

If they have a passport that qualifies for visa exempt they can enter and overstay with no issues as long as they are under 14.

Great, my wife is Canadian and all our passports are from the US. This is good news Brandon. Thank you. How certain of this are you?

It was my experience that our kids born in Thailand had no problems leaving the country and never had any visa other than the arrival visas, I just want make sure 100% that this is still the case ๐Ÿ™‚ Especially as the third kid was born in Costa Rica ...

No "overstay" stickers then?

they'll still get overstay stickers, but we've never had reports of that affecting kids. Most of the time kid passports don't even last that long and the stamp will be gone quickly. Yes it will still be in the computer but the chances of it affecting anyone are quite low.

You always have the option of getting a 30 day extension to the 30 day visa exempt entry if you want to, but it will cost 1900 baht per person.

so if we arrive and get 30 days on arrival, and we overstay say 58 days for the kids while we renew -

-- no fine

-- overstay sticker that will not effect their next stay? (I just renewed my daughter's passport, who is 4)

We love Thailand. My wife taught preschool for 8 years there. Always want to go back/ potentially live there in the future ๐Ÿ™‚

it won't affect the kids. You don't want yourself or your wife to overstay though.
