I’m living in Chiang Mai on an ED visa, I went to Koh Phangan for a quick trip, am I supposed to have my landlord send a new TM 30 and then go to promenade and update my form?

TLDR : Answer Summary
No, you do not need to update your TM 30 form after traveling inside Thailand, such as a trip to Koh Phangan, unless you are returning from abroad. Recent updates indicate that travelers can return to their registered address without filing a new TM 30 if they have not left the country.

That was the latest news I'd gotten about the TM.30 from people up in Chiang Mai who travel a LOT inside the country. They were told there was no need to update their TM.30 (that they did originally) with the Chiang Mai immigration office unless they come back from overseas.

No need to do tm30 within Thailand if you already filed one

nope, from what I heard the last update about the TM.30 in Chiang Mai was you ONLY update your TM.30 if you return from out of the country. If you're traveling around inside thailand you don't need to do anything when you get back to your place.

Dode Keates I meant no disrespect, I've made the mistake of taking someone's location at face value and was wrong with my advice. Many people just set their profile to Bangkok but don't really live in the city.

But at least now you know you don't need to fool with a TM.30 when you return from overseas :)

Dode Keates if your profile is to be believed and you you indeed live in Bangkok you don't need to worry. At this time the Bangkok immigration office does NOT care if you or your landlord has ever filed a TM.30 form.

No, it was not personal. But just to inform, in most of these topics I read: The Landlord or House owner has to do this. Sometimes even followed by it is not your problem. I just try to make things clear.

Don't blame the landlord or house owner. If you rent a private address Immigration sees you as the House master, so you are also responsible for filing the TM30 24 hours after arrivat. But when nobody does, nobody cares, till you walk in at Immigration Office for an Extension of Stay, Certificate of Residence, 90 day report etc. If your Immigration office is hard core, the check if the address is reported, if not you have 2 options: Pay the fine, mostly 1.600 Thb and get want you need afterwards or keep on telling it is not your responsibility and stay empty handed.

be careful of repercussions tho, if it's not done some people have apparently had problems with other stuff like 90 day reports n what not.

I was at Chumphon immigration today and heard on officer say something like that, I didn't ask but the person enquiring repeatedly asked and was told 'only if you go home, when you come back you do' or something along them lines(I think it was a Chinese person asking and the spoken English was poor from both her and the official). Either way if you have to or not it is the requirement of the landlord and their fine not yours.

oh interesting, I’ll see how things go without an update, I’ll find out sooner or later if it’s ok I guess

they file it online, they don't even get a proof of acceptance or anything it just shows they filled in the information. There is no receipt or anything.
