I have been living in Chiang Mai since March and on an ED visa. I intend to go down to the islands in January for a month, on my return to my condo in CM do I need to file a new TM30 with immigration? If so do I need to get landlords agent to make a new one?

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The need to file a new TM30 upon returning to Chiang Mai after domestic travel depends on the local immigration office's policies. Some suggest it may not be necessary if only traveling within Thailand, while others recommend re-filing to prevent any issues, especially if there are different interpretations of the rules. Clarification on the specifics of filing TM30 related to educational visas has been discussed, indicating that it might raise questions with immigration depending on individual circumstances.

Does anyone know if filing with immigration could cause any issues? I think in the eyes if the law, people on ED are supposed to follow classes, and not travelling around the country.

I have been to every class this year and have cleared it with school to take a short break.

If you attend classes or not is none of my business or concern. 🙂

I have previously been on ED visa, and took a few short holidays out of the country. On 2 out of 3 trips I was questioned upon return by immigration and was only curious if that could happen if you travel around Thailand.

unless you're staying at places other than hotels you don't have much choice. Most hotels file it automatically to satisfy the law

That I am aware. Was just wondering if anyone at the immigration would raise eyebrows, if the OP was to file a TM 30 on return.

You don't need to, only if leaving the country then coming vack

When in doubt, file again.

Each immigration office makes their own policy on this and some don't care if you only travel domestically and return to your address, but some offices want you to refile every time you leave home. Unfortunately I'm not sure what the policy is in ChiangMai
