Do I need to transfer tourist 60 day exemption stamp?

Hello. I am in Thailand currently on a tourist 60 day exemption but just got a new (UK) passport sent over.

1. Do I need to transfer the tourist stamp to the new passport?

2. And if i need to do that do i need some kind of letter from my embassy?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you are in Thailand on a 60-day tourist exemption stamp and have received a new passport, you generally do not need to transfer the stamp to the new passport unless you require an extension. If an extension is needed, you must go to your local immigration office to get the stamp transferred, which is a free service. Carry both passports together, as you can show the immigration officers the original stamp in your old passport when leaving Thailand.

If you got a stamp for 60 days then your old passport must still be good until after the 60 days. Show the same one you used and then the new one if asked.

Just keep an elastic band around to keep both passports together to show the original stamp in the old passport and new passport with it .

If you don’t need interaction with immigration then there is no need to transfer your stamp. Just use both passports when you leave.

If you need an extension then yes you’ll need to get the stamp transferred first. It’s a free service. Go to your local immigration office and apply.

The UK embassy hasn’t issued the “new passport” letter for ages. Immigration know this and won’t bother why you don’t have one.

FYI - as an aside for anyone in same situation new UK passport actually just took 2 weeks from application to the notification that it had arrived (at VFS BKK)

I see.

1. If just staying for the 60 days of exemption then no need to transfer.

2. If applying for the 30 days extension then i do.

Thanks

Yes UK getting better. When I applied recently for an Irish passport for a family member it’s all done online. I applied at about 11am and got a message saying it had been dispatched at 3pm. Arrived a few days later. So UK could still improve somewhat.

That is excellent. Sadly you cannot apply online for UK if abroad.

HMPO information was a shambles. After some inane emails I actually spoke to them on the phone and they told me I would not retain my passport (wrong) and that it would take at least 8 weeks(wrong). When I read out their own webpage to them about it being 4 weeks they put me on hold...then hung up.

Having said that , the VFS lady I dealt with at the UK office on Rama 9 was pretty good.

for those not in Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Phuket then you can use a service like “marks sending machine”

will ensure your application is done asap and is excellent. He charges a fee for his service, but compared to having to travel to a VFS office (usually twice) it’s a no brainer.
