Hi, not strictly a visa question as I'm on the 30 day exemption stamp. I'm picking up new passport from my embassy this week, do I have to have my 30 days stamped into new passport, if yes do I need a letter from my embassy confirming passport change. I live in Chiang Mai. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When picking up a new passport while holding a 30-day exemption stamp, you do not need to have the stamp transferred to the new passport. You can travel by using both your old and new passports during your exit from Thailand.

No. Just use both passports when you check out of Thailand. Once out just use your new one.

that is perfect as I'll be going to Savanaket to get my marriage visa.

yes. I was thinking of swapping one nationality to another and mixing up the two scenarios.

they can present BOTH passports at the land crossing and it'll be okay. They're NOT "swapping" passports <- exiting on a passport from one country and trying to re-enter on a passport from another country :O

They've got a NEW passport and an OLD passport. It's fine to cross by land.

no. Swapping passports is only valid via air travel.

Is that OK for the land crossing as well?
