Do I need to show 400,000 THB in funds for the Non-O marriage visa in Laos, and can I apply without an agent?

Looking for advice from someone with firsthand experience: do I need to show 400,000 THB in funds for the Non-O marriage single-entry visa when applying in Vientiane or Savannakhet? I have a Thai bank account with some funds (less than 400,000 THB), and when I applied through an agent everything went smoothly. My question is whether an agent is actually required, or if it’s not mandatory in this case.

Additionally, I would like to know the visa processing times in Vientiane and Savannakhet if I apply without an agent. Will I get the visa in 1-2 days same like with the agent? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for the Non-O marriage single-entry visa in Vientiane or Savannakhet, you are generally required to show funds amounting to at least 400,000 THB. This amount does not necessarily need to be held in a Thai bank account; it can be in any personal bank account worldwide. An agent is not mandatory for the application, and if you provide all the required paperwork correctly, the processing time can be as short as 1-2 days, similar to when using an agent.

Did anyone really tried it without showing 400k? What about married people that don't have this amount?

BreathtakingReindeer1677 Not an option anymore, but you could apply with proof of three months' income of at least 40K baht a month. Still, a 400K baht deposit in a Thai bank account is required within a month for the extension in Thailand. (Two months seasoning for the application).

proof of income only accepted if accompanied by a legalized affidavit of income from the applicants embassy in Bangkok, and co-legalized by the MfA. I have never heard that any Thai embassy in South East Asia does acknowldege original income documents from somebody from anywhere else in the world. You could show original documentation if the application was made through the Thai embassy in the home country, but not on any Thai embassy outside this jurisdiction

Should normally be no issues. Affidavit it’s only when you apply inside Thailand.

this is for applying in your home country, where the Thai diplomatic entity is bound to accept original documents in the applicant's lagnauge

I haven’t heard of the limitation you’re adding here. You should be able to apply for a Non O visa outside Thailand based on monthly income, whether for retirement or marriage, by documenting three months of regular income, not only by showing a lump sum held in a bank account.

you don't understand what I am trying to explain: these income documents must be in a form that is acceptable for the Thai embassy. EXAMPLE: You just can't use your original Norwegian pension statement to apply for a Non-Imm-O family visa through the e-visa online system of the Thai embassy in Hanoi. So, how would you prove your income if you don't have a Thai or English translation of your Norwegian pension statement legalized by the Thai MfA ?

In the same way I document income when applying for a Non O at home by submitting bank statements showing three months of regular income, but you are essentially right after I looked into it further. There is no rule saying you cannot apply based on monthly income at foreign missions. It is up to each embassy or consulate whether they accept applications from non-residents and whether they accept a three-month bank statement as proof of monthly income. Requirements vary, the embassy in Hanoi requires 400,000 baht on account for a marriage-based Non O, while the consulate in Savannakhet requires a verified monthly income confirmation for retirement cases.

If all your paperwork is sent in correct and you don’t get a email saying fix something it should only be 2 days, nice hotel right next to the embassy in Vientiane with breakfast, the Grand Hotel, nice people

If you are officially employed, you can also ask HR for salary certificate showing that your salary is more than

baht a month, include at least 4 months of bank statement that show regular income payments. You can also attach your thai spouse salary certificate and sponsership letter as a supporting documents. For 1 year extension based on income, you will need income affiditive from the embassy, and a lawyer, so everything is done properly. If you go by 400 000 deposit, it can be any bank in the world, does not have to be thai bank for 90 days, for 1 year extension it has to be thai bank

a Laotian embassy or consulate will NOT accept any original foreign income documents. . . . They will only accept any of these, if they have been legalized by the embassy in Thailand of the applicant, and co-legalized by the Bangkok based Ministry of Foreign Affairs

ok, you are perhaps correct. i had experience only at KUL, Malaysia and Hanoi, Vietnamn. I would guess the rule is the same for all embassies, but looks like Laotian has their own rules. Then appoligize for confusion

for the application to the 90-days Non-Imm-O Family Visa in Laos, you need to show a bank account statement over a minimum of 400,000 THB or equivalent in any bank account world over, as long as it is in your sole name. The waiting time is given with 3-4 workdays

Can you advise if the same applies to applications for NonO based on retirement made in Hanoi.

Have the funds in Thai bank already. What is their process time average

The processing time for a Non-O visa in Hanoi is similar to Laos. You can apply based on having at least 800,000 baht in your account at the time of application.
