Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding my annual extension based on marriage to a Thai national. My extension is due in November. By that time I will have been employed in Thailand for 9 months with a salary over 40,000 baht. Is that enough to satisfy the financial requirement or I still need to have 400,000 seasoned for two months?

Thanks for your input on this.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring whether they need to meet the 400,000 baht seasoned requirement for their annual extension based on marriage to a Thai national, or if their salary of over 40,000 baht for 9 months is sufficient. Responses suggest that proving income is possible but may involve extensive paperwork compared to simply keeping the required amount parked in a bank account.

My personal experience, having tried the income method a couple of times in the beginning... was that is was just a whole lot simpler and faster to park the 400k (in my case $13k is a USD acct) and let it sit gaining interest.

There is alot more paperwork required for the income method that requires a lot more leg work to collect from a lot more sources.

Again, my experience only.

it IS a pile of paperwork to get an extension based on marriage using legal income from working here. BUT once you and your employer do it the first time, it's just new documents of the same things over and over every year.

It's NOT beyond the ability of an average semi-clueless foreigner but you do need quite a bit from your employer and most people fail because of the documents the employer is required to give you not from the stuff they have that they provide

yup... Like most interactions with immigration, it's totally doable by ones self...I just personally find the ฿400k method easier and less time consuming since I don't have a big staff or in house accountant.

This makes sense. I’ll probably stick with the 400,000 baht option.

You can use salary made in Thailand, you need to show proof of 3 months prior application date payments of tax and sso from you and the Thai staff members.

Also copies of work permit.

Ask your local Immigration Office for the hand out with requirements to make sure you meet them all.

My salary is from Thailand. I am employed by one of the local universities but my contract started from 1 February, so by the extension time I will have worked there for 9-10 months.

Last three months before application, you wrote you will be employed 9 months when you need to apply, gives you time enough to meet the requirements of last three months before application date.

Like you suggested earlier, I’ll go and ask my local immigration office. For Bangkok, that’s Chaengwattana, right?

you have to show that the Thai people at your company are paying tax? How is anyone supposed to get that?

Ask your company or the tax office
