Hello, I'm on a visa mariage expiring mid December 2021. I will have a working permit beginning August 2021 with a 35,000 THB salary.

In order to renew my visa, is the work permit enough or will I have to show money in my bank (if yes how much)?

Thanks for your precious advices πŸ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a marriage visa expiring in mid-December 2021 and is concerned about renewing it since they have a work permit starting August 2021 with a monthly salary of 35,000 THB. Comments indicate that the salary is insufficient for a one-year extension based on marriage, which requires a minimum of 40,000 THB per month or a bank balance of 400,000 THB in a Thai account for at least two months prior to application. There is no option to combine salary and bank funds for this extension.

So if you are on a Non Imm O with extension for marriage. And then get a job in Thailand with a work permit you still have to arrange your own extension? I thought the visa would change or do you have to leave Thailand and come back in again with a new visa then get work permit ? Sorry just asking for interest sake.

people on extension of stay based on marriage can have a work permit. A person must have a work permit to be legally employed.

To get a one year extension of stay based on marriage, a person must make at least 40K THB a month OR 400K THB in a Thai bank account seasoned for two months.

To get a one year extension of stay based on employment, a person must make minimum wage, or in the OPs case, 50K THB a month. If his employer is not paying him minimum wage, then he can not get the one year extension of stay based on employment, and therefore would have to leave Thailand

There are a couple of rare exceptions to that adequate finances work permit rule, and I fit right in without any salary.

You seems to be french. There is no problem for us to get extension on monthly income. No check are made. 0 docs needed. Just need to pay a special doc in french ambassy

(if they are french) well spotted (y) they could indeed go to their embassy, get the affidavit of income from abroad notary letter saying they make 40K baht a month and use that as proof of funds for their year extension.. Are you sure the french consulate issues the income affidavit letter and doesn't require proof that you really get that amount?

there is no combination method available for extensions based on marriage to a thai <-( meaning you can't use part salary and part bank money) it's all one or all the other

sadly your salary of 35K baht a month is NOT enough to apply for a year extension based on marriage to a thai using monthly income method :/

You need a minimum of 40K baht a month in salary to use monthly income method as proof of funds.

The only way to get a year extension would be to show banked money of 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the new extension

Isn't the minimum wage for an Aussie to get a work permit 50k baht?
Benjamin ******
@Ginger ********
there is no minimum wage to get a work permit ( after all, people who volunteer get work permits)

There is a minimum wage for people getting a one year extension of stay based on employment. The salary is between 25K THB a month for people from Asia up to 50K THB for people from America.

Ask your labor office or the immigration office what the minimum wage is for your country.

Ok thanks for that, wasn't aware that's how it worked. I'll hit em up.

I thought that it could be possible to just complete the difference between my salary and the 40,000 THB. That would be 5,000x12= 60,000 THB to put in bank in my case.

there is no reason to involve your WP / Salary in case they are not over 40k, which is minimum for marriage extension. So far, you need to deposit 400k THB in lump sum (
*****
EUR), or get 12x monthly transfers to local bank from abroad in amount 40k+, or get WP/ Salary above 40k. The MOE issues WP w/o minimum wage by nationality requirement, but this will be not enough for extension and you can't use any "combination" like wage + extra money in bank. Each extension option require it's own set of documents.

In some case you can use "swear letter" or as we call it "affidavit" from your consulate, which is "swear" you have some income by month. The problem is, if you do this first time, then possible question can be asked by imm and additional supplemental documents may be asked, like transfer proofs, and you simply don't have enough time to build 12x transfers history.

So, for very first extension the easiest way to deposit 400k to bank account 2 month before application for extension.

Then, when you build your extension story, you may proceed with "swear letter" for 2nd - Xnd times. But I absolutely recommend to have proof of money transfers for previous 12 months in case imm ask you.

And, you can't use "WP" reason for extension in first year anyway, even if your wage above 40k, because of one requirement - you will need tax form 91, and if you work less than a year you simply can't get such form from your accountant.

thank you so much for all this informations. I thought that it would be ok with a 40k salary but I didn't know about the tax form.

If my salary is just 40k not more, would it be enough for next year extension or it should be more than 40k?

above 40k is fine, even like

is ok. You will need to check documents required, I can’t provide full list sorry

good luck. Just spend some time with this, as soon as you will do first application, consecutive will be much easier. For the very first one maybe you will need to visit IMM more than 2 times.

@Nic****
that won't work :(

Thanks a lot for your answer, is it another visa that could be done while have a work permit?
Benjamin ******
@Nicolas *******
you can get an extension of stay based on employment if you are making minimum wage. I don’t know what the minimum wage is for people from your nationality

Note: there is no minimum wage for teachers
