Do I need to go to the embassy to apply for the ED Visa if there’s no Thai embassy in Tunisia?

I'm a bit confused. I received an email from my school stating that I need to apply for the ED Visa at the embassy. I thought that starting in 2025 everything would be online and that there wouldn't be any embassy requirements especially since there's no Thai embassy in my home country Tunisia. Can anyone assist me with this? I've already booked my flight and wasn't aware that I needed to go to the embassy.😔

TLDR : Answer Summary
The confusion regarding the ED Visa application stems from the lack of a Thai embassy in Tunisia. It's clarified that while the application can be completed online, you typically need to specify which Thai embassy will process your application, often the closest one in a nearby country. The e-visa system allows you to handle it electronically, and embassy staff are generally helpful for any specific inquiries.

Step one: call the Thai Embassy closest to your location and ask them which specific Thai Embassy you are required to apply through. Ask for the specific website url.

Step two: apply through that website url and provide the specific Thai Embassy name/website url.

The Thai Embassy staff seem to be very friendly and helpful. Good luck! John

The evisa system just sends your application electronically to the embassy. You need to select the embassy in the country where you are physically located. If your country does not have a Thai embassy, usually it will be covered by a Thai embassy in a near by country or in the region.

If it is a country assigned to that embassy, it is fine if you are home in your country. I assume Tunisia would be assigned to another country. For example, Poland is responsible for Ukraine. You can state you are physically in Ukraine and still apply via the embassy in Warsaw Poland, as Ukraine is under their "jurisdiction"

like when I get approval for my ED-VISA I can get it immediately when i go to the embassy or I have to take an appointment as usual or I can get while at the immigration office at the airport? I'm sorry for asking alot of stupid questions but I'm a little worried

Almost everything is done online. You would receive your visa via email. There is a chance that the embassy would require an interview and that could be in person. There are a few embassies that still require you to pay in person as well. You should stay in the country you are applying via, throughout the processing time. So, if you are applying via the consulate in Tunisia, you should stay in Tunisia until you receive your electronic visa via email.

- It would probably be the Thai embassy in Libya. Are they still in operation?

Tunisia should be assigned to an embassy somewhere in the region. I am not sure though which one. For example, the Thai embassy in Nigeria is responsible for the following countries: Nationals from those countries would apply evisa from their country but select Nigeria. Not sure which one is assigned to Tunisa though, as many websites either dont work or are in French. Maybe the Thai embassy in Morocco or Egypt?

Tunisians apply for visa through the Royal Thai Embassy in Rabat, Marrocco.

You should visit their webpage to read more about their requirements and processing time. There are no such thing as "get it immediately". You apply online at thaievisa.go.th

After you sent your application with the required documents, they can still get back to you, to ask for additional information as well as request an interview (I've seen cases where the applicant was located far from the embassy and the interview were done by videocall).

Once your visa is appoved a pdf-file will be sent to you by e-mail. You print the visa and show it together with your passport when you travel to Thailand.

You most likely don't have to go to the embassy, you just have to pick the one that's closest to your location (or where Tunisians usually apply) for the e-visa system.

it's an e-visa. You'll get it in your email, unless the embassy wants to meet you in person.

You don't go to the embassy you complete an on line application. As part of this you specify your location and it will provide you the appropriate consulate that will process your application

they send via email

It's really not that complicated. They are just asking what embassy you're applying at. The Evisa just collects your information/documents and sends it to the Thai embassy in your country to processes your visa.
