Hello, I have a quick confirmation question in regards to the tm30

if you are flying into Thailand, but will be returning to your home address (where your old tm30 was registered to) am I correct in thinking that you don't need to apply for a new tm30?

I will arrive back tomorrow afternoon and I want to see if I need to pop over to immigration on Friday/if my landlord needs to register me again.

Flying into Chiang Mai if that matters

TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post asks whether a new TM30 form is required for re-entry into Thailand at the same address previously registered. Responses indicate that in Chiang Mai, it is generally necessary to file a new TM30 upon returning to Thailand from abroad, regardless of the prior registration, to comply with local immigration rules. Flexibility may vary by officer, but the safest approach is to have a new TM30 filed.

OP should have enough information to decide how she wants to do.

Thank you everyone for your comments.

I went to CM Immigration recently.. with the same dilemma after returning from an overseas trip.. they told me that it WAS necessary to file a new TM30 even though i was returning to the same address after only a 2-week break.. though they did not complete any new forms or take any payment.. they simply updated the computer and tippex/ed out the date on my existing acknowledgement slip.. then wrote the new date on it.. was in the office (aka cabin in rear car park) all of 5 minutes!

- did you contact CM Immigration within 24 hours of arrival ?

Yes, i went there the first working day after flying into CM

CM definitely do ( I have lived in CM since 2010 ) and have done for a long time if you are returning from a trip to another country . Should update the TM30 within 24 hours of re- entry but I have found officers at CM Immigration quite flexible if you are a couple of days late .

, 24hrs is since you arrive at that address, not from the time you enter Thailand.

- 24 hours from the time you enter Thailand. So for example if you stay in a hotel in BKK before going onto CM , that hotel should be the first update on the TM30 and then next day you fly to CM , 24 hours after you land. But as I said, CM Immigration whilst wanting a completed updated TM30 are not strict about the 24 hour period. I know this from my own experience.

Section 38 (TM30) regulation doesn't say anything about entering Thailand. Only about arriving at that address. That's it.

As others have noted it's local office specific, if you are returning on a re-entry permit/same extension/visa they might allow it, but doubtful if it's a completely new entry stamp.

CM usually requires you to update TM30 when you return from outside Thailand.

I just experienced this exact scenario today in CM. They required a current TM30 even though I had one dated from late April. It hasn't been the case in the past...so I had to leave and get another issued by my landlord. Best be safe than to lose a day at immigration.

Totally depends on your local immigration office so you need to ask them. And be aware that requirements change with staff changes. I had to do so this year for the first time in 6 years

They would notice your international arrival and this is different from just visiting another province, for which they said it is not required. I'd say yes, you need one to play it safe.

To be Safe, have a New TM30 filed. And next time you are in the Chiang Mai Thai Immigration office, ask them for their TM30 filing requirements.
