Hello All,

My husband and I were married recently and we are in the process of getting a work visa (English teacher) for myself and a spouse visa for him (both U.S. citizens). We expect to go the Vientiane, Laos to obtain the new visas. I plan to change my name to his last name in January and get a new passport. Will I need to change the name on my Visa as well or will they transfer the original to my new passport at Chiang Mai Immigration?

Thank you in advance❣️❣️❣️

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question asks whether the name on a visa needs to be changed after obtaining a new passport with a married name, and if the existing visa can be transferred to the new passport during the immigration process.

why not get a new passport with your new name in it BEFORE you go and get the visa?

Then you can go get the visa, come back get your new passport and when you go for your yearly extension (that will match your husbands extension) get the stamps transferred to the new passport so your extension is in the new one.

I asked the school about that, my documents are already prepared in my maiden name. We are currently waiting on my husband's documents. I do not travel often so it will not be an inconvenience to carry both passports. I just wish I was allowed to rip the page out of the old one and staple it to the new one 😂 but no worries 💚

The visa is a sticker in your passport and can not be changed, or taken out to transfer to a new passport.

please open your own topic for your own questions, Hijack other posts is not nice and brings only confusing in all kind of different advice in the answers.

if you get a new passport and your visa is still valid you use both passports

ok so what is the procedure if you get a new passport? Do you simply present the old one if someone needs to see your visa or do you have to leave the country and get a new one put in to your new passport?
