Should I change my last name in Thailand or the US as a US citizen married to a Thai citizen before applying for a Non-O marriage visa?

If I am a US citizen married in Thailand to a Thai citizen, would I change my name here or would I do it in the US? If I am applying for a Non-O marriage based visa would changing my last name affect that process? Should I just wait to change my last name until after I complete the visa process? Any suggestions? Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen married to a Thai citizen is inquiring whether to change their last name in Thailand or in the US, and whether this will affect their application process for a Non-O marriage visa. One comment suggests it may be best to postpone the name change until after the visa process to avoid complications, as changing the name would require a new passport.

unless I'm mistaken you can't change your name outside the US 😮 But I could be wrong.

If you change your name you're going to need a new passport with the new name SO I'd say just put the name change on the back burner for now, there's no requirement that you change your name in thailand when you get married

okay.. thank you! This is what we were thinking. At the Ampur they asked me if I wanted to change my name now here in Thailand, but I said I’d wait because like you said I figured I would also then have to update my passport and that would interfere with my visa process I’m sure.
