My wife and I are hoping to retire/semi retire to Thailand. We are both over 50, my wife intends going on a non-o visa, but I would ideally like to work part-time teaching English. I am best to go on a tourist visa then look for work and change to a work visa, or can I get a work visa here before securing a job? Thank you in advance for all advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user plans to retire in Thailand and is exploring visa options for themselves and their spouse. The wife will apply for a NON-O visa, while the user seeks to work part-time teaching English. They inquire whether to start on a tourist visa and transition to a work visa after securing a job, or if they can obtain a work visa beforehand. Comments indicate that a tourist visa should be used initially, as a work visa can only be obtained with an active job offer.

Get a single entry tourist visa (that will stamp you in for 60 days and that you can extend once for 30 more days at the immigration office once you're here for 1900baht)

You can't get a "work visa" (actually a Non-B visa <- the B means issued for business) until you actually HAVE a job offer because you use documentation from your employer to get the visa issued
