I'm in Chiang Mai on a 60 METV issued to me on 10/10. My visa stamp says I'm admitted until 12/22. What is the best way to extend my visa for another 30 days? Should I extend at the immigration office, or plan my trip to Laos sometime before the 22nd? I have a US passport.

Also – I just want to confirm that the visa is valid according to the stamp date I entered Thailand (10/24), not the date of issue for the visa (10/10)? Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on extending their 60-day Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) in Chiang Mai, which is valid until December 22, and is asking whether to extend at an immigration office or do a border run to Laos. Responses indicate that they can either extend for 1,900 baht at the immigration office or do a border run to receive another 60-day stamp, with a suggestion to go to the Mae Sai - Tachiliek border for the easiest option without the need for a visa for Burma. Additionally, it is confirmed that the visa’s validity is determined by the stamp date of entry (October 24), not the issue date (October 10).

If you're in Chiang Mai, the easiest place for you to border bounce to get another 60 days is not Lao (because you'd have to buy a visa for that country), but at the Mae Sai -Tachiliek border with Burma. It only costs $10USD (or 500baht) to stamp in and out of burma.

If you are on a 6 month METV you have two choices. You can go to the immigration office and extend your current stamp for 30 days for 1900baht.

OR

You can go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country then stamp right back into thailand to get another 60 day stamp.

A 6 month METV is valid for 6 months from the date it's issued, not from the date you come into the country.

Also, if I apply for extension at an immigration office, do I need to present any other materials besides my passport?

Thanks. The 60 day time frame starts from the date of entry stamp tho, right? (I was worried that I'm late in figuring this out given that it's been 2 months since my date of issue)
