Quick report RE: visa exempt 30+30+covid extension?

I entered Thailand January 15, 2022, with visa exempt (US passport) for 30 days. I extended for another 30 days today at Promenade Mall Immigration Office in Chiang Mai. While there, I asked the front desk and the immigration officer if I would be able to come back and get the COVID extension; both said yes.

I mention it because I know a lot of people are wondering if they will be able to get this extension. While technically it is up to the immigration officer, I think they will be willing to give it to you if you meet the requirements, at least in Chiang Mai. Neither immigration worker seemed to have any doubt that I would be able to get the extension, even though I was in Thailand for 3 months last year (not as long as some people in this group, but still). I will let you know if/when I get the extension in a couple weeks.

P.S. Promenade Mall Immigration in Chiang Mai is awesome. The whole visit took about ten minutes; no wait, and the front desk even helped me fill out the forms.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reports on their experience with visa exemption and extension in Thailand, specifically regarding the COVID extension. After entering Thailand on January 15, 2022, with a 30-day visa exemption, they successfully extended their stay for another 30 days at an immigration office in Chiang Mai. The user was informed by immigration officers that obtaining a COVID extension should be possible if requirements are met, despite their previous stay length. They plan to apply for the COVID extension soon and share their positive experiences at the Promenade Mall Immigration Office.

Here's how I would approach that extension of stay:

If you apply for it and get it, consider it a bonus. It's not something I recommend assuming you'll receive. I have not heard of any rejections for someone who is applying for their first 60 day extension of stay yet.
