Hi,

My 1 year education visa is due to finish on 10/02/24 where I am planning to do a border run and come back with the normal 30 days visa exempt.

I have seen a few posts about having to cancel the education visa at immigration but my school says this is 100% not required that they’ve been doing it for 20 years. Can anyone advise if I really need to do it? I don’t want any issues coming back in so would rather double check with anyone who might have done before.

Answer summary

The user inquires about the requirement to cancel their education visa before conducting a border run, with conflicting information from their school and advice from the community. A response clarifies that it is necessary to obtain a cancellation letter from the school and present it to the Thai Immigration office to officially cancel the visa prior to departure.

Your school is wrong.

You will need to get the school to give you a letter to Thai Immigration stating that you are ending your course of study on February 10.

TAKE that letter from the school to the Thai Immigration office that ISSUED the Ed Visa stamp... a week before February 10.

Thai Immigration will cancel the Ed Visa... effective February 10..

And you need to depart Thailand on or before February 10.

Be sure to cancel the Ed Visa at the Thai Immigration office which ISSUED the ED Visa.
