Do I need COVID coverage for the Thai Pass when entering Thailand?
No need to do covid coverage for Thai Pass.

in this case if you test positive they only pay your medical treatments, you have to pay for the hospital quarantine by yourself

No need a special insurance tailored especially for Covid, but you'll need a medical insurance that does NOT exclude Covid. So yes, Covid coverage still needed.
