Hello everybody, I have a Visa-question and wanted to be sure that I don’t need a Visa.

I am a Belgian citizen. In the months of July and August, I am travelling to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodja. I will be:

- arriving on 9 July 2024 on the airport in Bangkok Suvarnabhumi

- leaving Thailand for Laos on 15 July 2024 (border post Chiangkhong) by private bus

- re-entering Thailand (from Cambodja) on 7 August 2024 (border post Aranyaprathet)

- leaving Thailand on 9 August 2024 (airport Bankgkok) and return to Belgium

So I will be staying 7 days in Thailand and then again 3 days. Do I need a visa for these periods because I don’t have a flight to Laos or an official bus ticket? Do I need to fill in a digital form or take some photos/documents with me to use at the border posts? Or will I get just a stamp in my passport and I can travel?

I hope somebody can answer my questions? Thank you in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
As a Belgian citizen traveling to Thailand in July and August 2024, you do not need a visa for your planned itinerary. You can enter Thailand twice on a visa exemption, receiving a stamp providing 30 days of stay each time you enter. Although technically an onward ticket to leave Thailand within 30 days is required, this is often not strictly enforced. It's advisable to have your passport and boarding pass handy. Note that you will need visas for Laos and Cambodia, which can be obtained at the border.

i can only speak of my experience and for over 20 years I have flown into Thailand from Australia many times without a onward ticket

Never been asked pre boarding or on arrival to show exit flight

Each time you enter Thailand, you will receive a visa-exempt stamp in your passport good for 30 days. All you need is your passport and your boarding pass from the flight to Thailand.

The Thai government has made it the responsibility of each airline serving Thailand to check for an onward ticket within the Visa-on-Arrival or visa-exempt period or deny boarding. Some airline clerks check for this and some don't. A strategy that many people employ is to check-in with the airline a bit early. If the airline clerk asks for an onward ticket, get out of line and "rent" a ticket from a site like onwardticket. com (they cost around $15US) or purchase a real refundable ticket out of Thailand online. Then, get back in line and check-in. If you bought the refundable ticket, cancel it after you check-in.

Thank you! So you mean the boarding pass from my flight coming to Thailand the very first day? The second time I enter Thailand over land. I have a flight ticket for entering Thailand and leaving Thailand but nothing for in between

Thank you! Now it is clear for me. I was afraid that not having any prove or ticket for leaving Thailand the first time for Laos would be a problem. Or that it would be a problem that there are 32 days in total in between my first enter and leaving Thailand…

You need to hang onto your boarding pass when you arrive by air. You don’t need a boarding pass when you enter by land. You are allowed 2 entries by land or sea in a calendar year.

You don’t need a visa and can enter two times on visa exemption. Formally an onward ticket within 30 days is required when you enter on visa exemption, but this is rarely checked at the immigration. The issue could be if your airline will ask for it, but since you’ll also anyway have a ticket out of Thailand one month later you should be fine even though this will give you one day overstay in Thailand which you won’t be fined for.
