Marriage Visa question.

When i apply for non O visa 90 days based on marriage in my Country (Belgium):

If i read this document on the Belgium Thai embassy website it doesn't say i need money in a Thai bank account. Just need to show evidence of 400k. But when i want to extend the visa when i arrive in Thailand, do i need to have a Thai Bank Account with 400k in it or can i use the same Bank documents i used when i applied in Belgium?

My question is when you apply outside Thailand before you arrive.

Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a Non-O visa based on marriage from Belgium, the embassy does not require you to have a Thai bank account. However, for extending the visa upon arrival in Thailand, immigration requires that you show either 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account for at least two months or proof of a monthly income of 40,000 baht through an embassy income verification document.

Don't confuse the embassy requirements for the visa with the immigration requirements for the extension. The embassy does not expect you to have a Thai bank account, because you are not applying in Thailand. Immigration does require you to have a Thai bank account. You'll need to prove either 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account for 2 full months when you apply for your extension or you'll need to prove an income of 40,000 baht per month via an embassy income verification document from your embassy in Thailand.

If your embassy does not do income verification letters, I believe a letter from your Thai bank will work.

how can i apply for an extension at immigration if i'm not able to stay in Thailand longer then 2 months at 1 time... I still work in Belgium ( construction Business).

I stay in Thailand around 2 months per trip and then fly back to Belgium to work for 2 or 3 months and repeat. But immigration officer say to me i can not keep using visa exempt stamps... But i dont stay long enough to go through the whole 3 month non O, + extension process.

I did not wanted to have a discussion with IO Lady 🤭 for why i come on visa exempt stamps

like anything else in thailand, the answer is a visa agent. If you pay them money, they will find you a solution

you can't get into the 1-year extension if that's the case. But there's no reason you can't apply for a new non-O visa each time you travel to Thailand.

being a bit in the same boat. Since they removed the Non O 1 year multiple entry, I've been told by the embassy that I should apply for a tourist visa. If me and the wife wants to be able to go somewhere while I am home it has to be multiple entry tourist visa for which I am being charged 6000 baht. Insane. While every youngster with a laptop under the arm calling themselves digital nomad and getting 5 years DTV visa for hardly anything more.

Maybe the best for you is to apply for a 90 days Non O visa with single entry and do one year extension of stay in Thailand with multiple re-entry permits. Then you can just come and go as you wish.

Extension of stay is 1900 baht and re-entry permit is 1000 baht for single, multiple 3800 baht.

like Svend Wihame is replying, process of extension takes time. I'm a rotational worker and don't have several months to hang around and wait for immigration to come home to me and my wife (married more than 20 years) to check. So after removal of the Non O 1 year multiple entry, they made it very difficult for us. Gotta admit I feel a bit shafted. Been spending million's and millions of baht in Thailand and all I am allowed to, is a tourist visa if lucky 😂🤣

yes, we will always be " a tourist" in the eyes of Thai people. Even if you live here for 20 years 🤭

@Sven *******
what bothers me is that digital nomads, and remote workers are getting a 5 year visa just like that. I am thinking about asking my employer if they can write remote consulting on my contract as well because then I would qualify for the DTV visa as well.....

not a bad idea 😁

I understand it can be a bit difficult to connect the Non O with your first year. You can enter on a visa extension and apply for a Non O inside Thailand, get a re-entry permit and apply for the extension of stay on your next rotation if it’s possible to link it within the timeframe you have available.

This "Non O visa" for 90 days?? are there money requirements? thank you
Jan ******************
@Jack ****
Same requirements for Non O with single entry as the multiple you could get until October last year, income/pension equal to min 65K baht OR funds equal to 800K baht.

@Jack ****
yes, but because you apply from your home country you don't need a Thai bank account for the funds.

@Sven *******
it is a marriage visa with 400k B in your home bank..?
Jan ******************
@Jack ****
Requirements varies between embassies/consulates. This is as an example requirement for a 90 days Non O based on marriage at the embassy in Washington DC. Income min 1500 usd a monthly or funds

usd. For the first year extension of stay in Thailand you’ll need to prove 400K baht in your Thai bank two months prior to the application.

100% correct. 40 years old and married and then i would apply for a tourist visa every time i want to go Home ( yes Thailand is my home now. The wife her own words). But i'm not really a tourist anymore. I really live in 2 countries the last 2 years.

Tourist visa is around 150 euro for multi entry and 80 for single entry.
Jan ******************
@Sven *******
Why? Just apply for yearly extension of stay and get re-entry permits. Then you can come and go as you like.

he wrote he cannot start the application step for the 1-year extension out of a 90-days non-imm-o, because he never stays in Thailand any longer than 2 months. You need to wait until 30 days are left on that 90-days stay permit, before they allow him to apply for the 1-year extension. He would need just 1 - 2 more weeks of stay added to 8 weeks, in order to be able to apply for the Extensions. Maybe, as a construction worker,
@Sven *******
could ask for 9-10 weeks of a holiday, not just for 8 weeks. With this extra time on hand, he would succeed

this process takes too long and you need to stay in Thailand till you have your extension
Jan ******************
@Sven *******
yes between the Non O entrance and the first year extension of stay you’ll need some time. The one year Non O-A visa has still multiple entries. The main requirements are the same, but you’ll need to have a health insurance, health certificate and provide a police check up as well. This gives you possibility to travel for two years to Thailand if you update your health insurance and get re-entry permits for your second year.
