A question please. The lump sum needed for an extension. Does the bank need to certify that it came from outside Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, if you are applying for an Extension of Stay based on marriage, you do not need to show that the funds came from outside the country when using the banked money method. You only need to have 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account in your name for at least two months prior to applying. However, if applying for a Non-O visa, proof that the funds originated overseas is generally required.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
's EXCELLENT advice and go to the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao and get a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on marriage for 5000baht.
You can do that without the need to show ANY proof of funds (because that consulate doesn't require it).
On that visa you will get stamped in for 90 days, then when that runs down you go to a border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and stamp right back into thailand for a new 90 day stamp.
On that one year visa you can get 15 months of stay in country (in 90 day increments).
ahh the 60 day "visit thai family" extension, that would buy you two more months for sure

Now the BIG question, how many days do you have left on your current stamp?

You said you already have the 90 day Non-O visa.
What was the reason you used to get that Non-O visa
Where did you get it?
AND
most importantly is there anything written on it in Thai?

Thanks Tod. Had no idea about the Transferwise issue but that looks like a killer. Need that house sale to go through in time.

Roger Lorton The reason I asked was because if you'd gotten it based on being over 50 (retirement) and they wrote that on the visa you wouldn't have been able to use it to get an extension for any other reason.
IF you are using banked money for a marriage extension you need to have 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months BEFORE you apply for your yearly extension. For banked money method there is no proof that the funds came from overseas.
IF you are using monthly income you need to transfer IN to the country from overseas into a thai bank account a minimum of 40K baht per month EACH month for the preceding 12 months BEFORE you apply for your extension of stay. Because you come from a country whose consulate no longer issues income affidavits your only option if you want to use the monthly income method is overseas transfers and EVERY transfer has to come from abroad.

At the moment you can not meet the financial requirements for the 1 year Extension of Stay, alternative is a visit to Savannakhet where you can get the 1 year Multiple Entry Non Immigrant O visa based on marriage without financial requirements, cost of visa 5.000 Thb

Now for the yearly extension of stay (AFTER you have a Non-O visa that starts the process) you do NOT need to show the money originated from overseas, ONLY that it was put in your account for the requisite seasoning period before you apply for your extension

Okay, let's sort this out right now, IF you are applying for the 90 day Non-O VISA inside the country at Bangkok Immigration office you need to show the 800K baht for a Non-O based on retirement or the 400K baht for a Non-O based on marriage came in from overseas.
You MUST show it came from overseas there is no lee-way on that at all. It CANNOT come from inside the country
Then you do NOT need to show where the funds came from at all for the yearly extension based on marriage, ONLY that the money was seasoned in the account for 2 months before you apply

I have a non o visa for 3 months. l am looking for a 12 month extension based upon marriage
Not, regardless of marriage or retired. You can deposit to account using any method. I know someone, who bring cash in backpack, declared at customs then deposit. And someone, who withdraw from his international ATM card then deposit right away in bank office

Which lump sum for which visa or for which Extension of Stay?
i had someone at the immigration office today with his bank account statement from the US and the receipt from transfer wise here to his thai account trying to get them to agree that the money certainly came from his account
He hasn't gotten back to me yet about whether it would be okay or not. He had 7 months of flawless international transfers by them and then this month shows as an inside the country transfer to his account.

Roger Lorton if you download the receipts from TransferWise, it shows where the money was initially transferred too i.e kasikorn first then bangkok bank or the other way round. All you need to do is get your UK bank statements to show payment to TransferWise and the dates should correlate, this should satisfy immigration
UK embassy no longer provides letters regarding income. l have 12 months of 40k but have just discovered that using Transferwise creates another problem ie. my Bank may not be able to confirm the funds come from abroad.

if you apply for an Extension of Stay based on being married with a Thai National you have several options to show your finances: Or 400.000 Thb at least 2 months prior the application date on a Thai bank in your name, some Immigration offices do ask to leave the money in the bank during the under consideration period. Or monthly income of minimum 40.000 Thb certified by your Embassy, proof of 12 months foreign deposits on a Thai bank account on your name or with work permit and tax and sso payments if money is made in Thailand.
l was soon to apply for a married extension but have just discovered the problem associated with Transferwise of which l was not aware. My money is tied up in a house that hopefully will sell in the next month.
