Hi all. My yearly lease at my apartment in Bangkok will expire next month, but my Retirement Visa (Non-O) will not need to be extended until the end of September. My hope would be to NOT sign another one-year lease, but to spend the coming year exploring around Thailand and other countries. I have been told that I must have another "long term lease" when I apply for an extension at Chaeng Wattana. But how long is that - another year? Again, I'd really prefer to just do month-to-month rentals in different cities for the next year. Thanks!
TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the lease requirements for a Retirement Visa (Non-O) extension in Thailand, specifically regarding the need for a long-term lease. The original poster prefers month-to-month rentals but is concerned about immigration regulations that may require a lease of at least six months to apply for an extension. Several comments confirm that a lease of six months or even longer is generally required for visa extensions, with suggestions to inquire directly at the immigration office for the most accurate information.
