Do I need a letter of employment to obtain a multi entry tourist visa from the United States? The website says yes, but two people here in Thailand who have one from the US says no.

TLDR : Answer Summary
There's some confusion regarding the requirement for a letter of employment when applying for a multi entry tourist visa from the US. While the official website indicates that it may be needed, experiences shared by individuals suggest it is not always required, especially depending on the Thai consulate from which the application is made. Consulates in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington DC may have varying requirements, so it's advisable to check the specific requirements for the consulate you are applying to.

I removed a reply questioning the authority by which Thai Consulates/Embassy's operate.

We recommend you look at the specific requirements for the visa one seeks from the Thai Consulate or Embassy you are making applicatiom to.

Meet those requirements. Visa issued.

There are FOUR thai consulates in the US that issue a 6 month METV, They are Chicago, Los Angeles, New York & Washington DC

Each one has slightly different requirements. Make sure you're meeting the requirements at the consulate you're applying at.

I've gotten a few from the Chicago consulate applying in person and never needed it

so, assumed one was not self employed, quit his paid job in order to enjoy a 6 month holiday in SEA. He cannot supply a current proof of employment but he can show a tax statement of the previous year. Would this suffice the requirement? I guess, best bet is to ask the embassy or consulate by phone or email

tax statements as proof . .that answers the question, doesn't it?

I wonder how the Thai embassies or consulates treat self employed folks who like to do a sabbatical and have no proof of any employment or holiday period given from an employer . . does that mean they cannot apply for a multi entry tourist visa ?
