I received my METV a few days ago from the Consulate in LA. They require proof of onward travel and proof that you will leave the country multiple times during the 6 month period. I'm retired so I provided proof of my retirement... they are VERY strict... you can send a message to the consulate via FB messenger...they are very responsive...

It's a super quick process provided your paperwork is in order. I dropped my paperwork off in the morning and my Visa was ready at 3 PM that same afternoon

I booked a couple of cheap bus tickets online for proof that i was leaving the country. I also booked a room on booking dot com for proof of lodging.

I just emailed a friend I know who is on his FOURTH 6 month METV from the consulate in Chicago :O Yep that's four of them in a row so far. ;)

I'll see what he's used to get the visas.

Did you read the requirements from the website about the 6 month METV? I have found as a rule the LA consulate is not all that flexible from their posted requirements.

I did have proof of exit flight . I am on 3rd METV now .

@Jeremy *******
same for me a LA consulate for METV . Did by mail .

@Dakota *********
it can be 90 days as well...all you need to do is go to an immigration office and pay ฿1,900 for a 30 day extension on the visa....just FYI

@Dakota *********
no 180 days out...remember you can do land border crossings as well with that visa which do not count against you for the 2 per year...so if you get it now you can stay in Thailand for April 2019...

@Dakota *********
keep in mind his experience was from the thai consulate in New York NOT Los Angeles. They all run slightly different.

I know someone who got one from Chicago and they needed to show several flights out and back into thailand during the 6 months.

@Jeremy *******

The RT was at the end of the 6 months...

@Dakota *********
6 month METV, I applied in Aug 2017 for it, and received it...I bought a RT from NYC - BKK for the airline let me board...but you can buy a ticket on Air Asia/Thai Lion/ Etc out of Thailand...they are liberal on that
Tod *********
@Dak***
they'll definitely want to see that you're going to leave thailand (in 60-90 days) because you HAVE to leave the country on that visa.

@Jeremy *******
did you have proof of onward flight? was it Multiple entry? how long ago?
Jeremy ********
@Tod ********
no I just put down a friends address, and no proof of employer was needed or asked by the NYC Thai Consulate...
Tod *********
@Jeremy *******
, did you show proof of lodging? And did you have a letter from your employer?
Tod *********
@Dak***
I'd say you should contact them directly,

OR go try to apply.

I'd definitely have a letter from your g/f with her thai i/d stating you're staying there for proof of lodging.

just have all the paperwork...bank statement of 6 months with $7,000 in it, onward flight (out of Thailand to any country) 2 passport pics, paperwork filled out and $200...super easy

The various thai consulates scattered across the globe are as inconsistent as the thai immigration offices inside the country.

So at least they are consistently inconsistent. :O
Jeremy ********
Embassy/Consulate just make sure you master the rules of that unique place you’re going to while having all the correct paperwork filled out....
Tod *********
@Al ******
correct, and even if the consular services (the people who sell visas) is on the embassy grounds, you don't buy visas from embassies ;)
Al *******
@Tod ********
also, if the terms are considered interchangeable a person may google Thai Embassy requirements when they plan on dealing with a Thai Consulate, and could be irritated and surprised.
Al *******
@Tod ********
as you like to so often remind us, precise terms are important.
Jeremy ********
@Tod ********
hence same same but different
Jeremy ********
Al Olsen so in layman’s terms...the consul works for the ambassador and carries out his/her vision for the mission to be successful while having full autonomy to conduct business as they see fit for their own consulate...
Tod *********
@Al ******
which while anecdotally interesting has almost nothing to do with why different consulates have different procedures and different requirements (even consulates in the same country).
Al *******
@Jeremy *******
maybe, maybe not.
Jeremy ********
@Dakota *********
each place has its own Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of dog things...which never are the same at the different Consulates/Embassies
Al *******
Dakota Anderson each country has a single Embassy in the other country and depending on the size of that country it may also have one or more consulates. Sometimes the consulates cannot perform all the duties of an embassy. “An embassy is a permanent diplomatic mission (read: a delegation of diplomats) led by an ambassador. The term is often also used for the physical building they occupy, but that's more correctly termed a chancery. A consulate is a government delegation led by a consul.”

Jeremy Miller this is a consulate, not an embassy.

@Tod ********
me 2...you usually have to give a discreet tip in most embassies for that VIP service
Tod *********
@Jeremy *******
i almost fell off my chair when I saw it but it's been a policy since 2016 :O
Jeremy ********
@Tod ********
I’m amazed a free VIP service...Thai Embassies are truly amazing...
Tod *********
@Jeremy *******
They do offer same day service
Jeremy ********
@Dakota *********
it’s usually pick up the next day
