Can I apply for a 60-day COVID extension in Thailand without getting a 30-day extension first?

My original 60 day stamp on my TR Visa expires on March 21. I know can apply for the standard 30 day extension, but I'm thinking about trying to skip the standard extension, and just apply for a 60 day ข้อ5 "Covid Extension"... I think Tod Daniels suggested I might try this (the worst that can happen is they say, "No"). My questions are:

1. Do I need to make an APPOINTMENT to request the 60-day COVID EXTENSION...?

2. I'm in Bangkok. Which immigration location should I go to, to request a covid extension... Chaengwattana or Muang Thong Thani...?

3. Besides a 4x6cm photo, copies of my passport, TR visa, entry stamp, and a completed TM.7 form, what else do I need to request the covid extension?

4. What reasons are people typically using successfully, for WHY they need a covid extension...? In my case, I'm just stuck waiting for my "entry exception document" from the Philippines, so I can re-enter via my retirement visa there... this is why I want additional time in Thailand.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of applying for a 60-day COVID extension for their TR visa in Thailand, instead of the standard 30-day extension. They ask whether an appointment is needed, which immigration office to visit in Bangkok, what additional documentation is required besides the standard forms, and for common reasons to justify the extension due to being stranded while waiting for an entry exception document from the Philippines. The community offers various insights, emphasizing that while some immigration offices allow direct application for the COVID extension, others do not, and typically, an appointment is not necessary. Documentation needed includes a passport copy, photos, proof of residence, and additional forms.

nope, that post was 13 WEEKS ago.

IF you came in on a 60 day tourist visa entry you go to the main immigration office at Chaengwattana now for Counter J

@Tod ********
thank you! Wanted to confirm! 👍

you do NOT need an appointment for Counter J the people who have tourist visas. It's not a busy section at all

there is no "official order" :P

Some offices are letting people who recently entered on 45 day visa exempt or 60 day tourist visa stamps go straight to the 60 day covid extension

BUT

some offices are making them get the 'regular' extension first. It's totally up to the office

& to the officer you get when you apply as far as what they'll let you do.

I do know this;

IF you apply for a 30 day 'regular' extension that time is ADDED to your current stamps expiration date

BUT

IF you go from a visa exempt OR a tourist visa entry straight onto a 60 day covid extension that stamp starts the day you apply. It is not added on your current stamp <- meaning you lose any time you have left going straight to the covid extension.

what you are telling me is ambiguous to what immigration in Nonthaburi and Hua Hin have advised me.

I trust a passport stamping, paper pushing mid level thai gov't official about as far as I can piss. :O

They'd rather pull some imaginary answer out of their ass then tell you they don't know the answer.

I am telling you that many MANY people who recently entered have indeed gotten the 60 day extension without getting the 30 day regular extension first.

Now that you don't believe me OR you think it is not going according to some imaginary 'official order' is on you.

It is what it is :)

- Tod told you how some Imm offices decide... and that not all do it the same way... There is not definitive answer

You can’t skip the 30 day visa extension because that’s the order the extensions are granted.

You don’t need an appointment.

You go to the nearest immigration office to where you are living, with proof of residence.

Covid extensions are for anyone stranded in Thailand due to the pandemic, Covid extensions are being provided up to March 30 and no one knows if the program will be extended or not.

Tod *********

Wow... Really? That's a great idea!

@Shane *********
for me I couldnt skip it but actually loads of people have been able to to get the 60 days first at various offices so this isnt completely true
Shane **********
@Max *******
the official order of visa extension is the optional 30 days is issued first then the 60 day Covid extension can be applied for if required. If Covid extensions are being granted before the visa extension then the issuing officer isn’t following protocol.
Tod *********
@Shane *********
that is actually incorrect
Max ********
If the covid extension are extended end of this month you could be able to get it in april but no guarantee

I’ll let some from Bangkok confirm whether they’ll let you apply for the Covid extension if you haven’t yet had your regular 30 day extension. 2. TR and visa exempt use Muang Thong Thani not CW.

3. You’ll need this stuff.

A copy of your passport data page,

A passport photo,

Proof of filing a TM30,

A copy of your departure card (TM6)

A copy of your latest entry stamp,

A filled out TM7 (application form for extensions),

A filled out STM2 (acknowledgement that you understand the rules for overstaying)

A filled out “I don’t want to leave because of Covid form” - I have no idea if it has an official name or number.

And 1,900 baht.

4. I’ve not seen a report of anyone being unsuccessful, other than some office require a letter from the embassy or proof that they won’t issue one. In Bangkok that’s not needed I believe.

David *********
‘My reason for the extension is due to the ongoing pandemic in the uk’

BUT I don’t think he read it anyway as they were busy, just a quick flick through and gave me the stamp
