Good morning, can I ask for advice (on behalf of a good friend) on whether I need to have 12 months validity on my passport to apply for a new marriage visa.

Secondly after trying to apply for a new British passport the official government website says that I will need to go to Bangkok to complete the application.

Many thanks in advance for you advice and replies.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on passport validity requirements for applying for a marriage visa in Thailand. It's clarified that for an initial Non-O single entry visa, a 6-month validity is sufficient. When extending based on marriage, the extension can either be for 1 year or the remaining validity of the passport. For renewing a British passport, the user notes the need to go to Bangkok, although there are alternative options via VFS in Chiang Mai.

Your extension will be one year or the time left on your passport. Yes, we have to go to Bangkok.

For an initial Non-O single entry visa you need 6-month validity.

When you apply for an extension based on marriage to a Thai, your extension will be shorter one of 1-year or your passport validity.

If you get a new passport and you need to transfer stamps, you need to go to the immigration office that issued your extension, not always Bangkok.
