What do I need for my first marriage visa extension in Thailand, and do I have to return to Phuket for it?

Hi all.

I have a marriage visa that I need to do my first extension of in December. The original visa was processed in Phuket, so the CM immigration office has told me I need to go there to do my first yearly extension. As for documents etc. are they the same as when I applied on the first place e.g. photos of us in the house? And if so, does immigration need to visit the house again (because we live in CM now, that might be an issue).

Thank you for any advice you can give.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on the process for their first yearly extension of a marriage visa initially issued in Phuket, but they now reside in Chiang Mai. They inquire whether the document requirements will be the same as the initial application and if immigration will need to visit their residence. Comments suggest the necessity of returning to Phuket for the extension and highlight the importance of updating address registrations with immigration, alongside mentioning possible complications with the process due to their current residence.

I see a northern border bounce in your near future.

No disrespect intended but if you weren't going to be able to stay IN that province until you got the year extension that was kind of a fail on your part to even start the process of the "marriage visa" 😕

I don't know any office that will issue the initial year extension on a Non-O visa based on marriage from another province so you're going to go back to Phuket to get that year extension. AND you should post on a Phuket group asking what documentation is required to get the year extension based on marriage to a thai

Now as far as your question, no one can tell, and you're going to have to go back to Phuket to talk to them about the process. I don't even think they'll let you apply for the year with a residence in Chiang Mai because you have to live/stay in the area where you're getting the extension.

Your other option would be to exit/re-enter the country (getting OFF this 90 day Non-O visa) and start all over again from a free stamp entry but this time apply at the Chiang Mai immigration office,

I didn't know that it was going to be an issue. I didn't realize that the visa was province based. Obviously, something that I should have been aware of but alas. I will go talk to Chiang Mai first and see if there is any workaround at all. Thanks.

try definitely go talk to them (y) make sure you have a TM30 filled showing you now reside in that province

Just realize they're under no obligation to give you an extension on that out of province non o.

Also remember in C/M you can apply for an extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current 90 day stamp, so no need to run that stamp down before you go find out.

The sooner you find out if it can be done there or not the faster you can come up with a plan.

Best of luck with it

Report back after you talk to the Chiang Mai immigrations if you would..

Will do!

Why have you not filed a new address registration with the Chiang Mai Thai immigration office ?

Until you do, you are considered to be living in Phuket.

Where have you been filing the TM47, 90 day report ?

I have done both those things. Apparently, it doesn't matter.

if you are registered as living in Chiang Mai, then you should be able to get the extension. Your TM30 address registration and TM47 90 day reports were made... WHERE ?

Thank You for your helpful reply 👍

my 2 cents. You should visit Chiang Mai immigration and ask. It seems that it will be much more convenient to process visa and extension closer to where you live as it often involves more than one visit. Same for the bank.

easy now, they have the 90 day Non-O visa issued in country already <- but it was issued in Phuket when they were there NOT where they live now in Chiang Mai

That's the problem they're facing because most (if not ALL) offices require you do the entire process from start to 90 day Non-O to year extension at that office.

You can't get the 90 day Non-O issued in one province then move and get the year extension issued at another province 😕

That only works if you get the Non-O visa at a thai consulate OUTSIDE the country not in country
