TLDR : Answer Summary
While it is not officially required for holders of a DTV visa to carry 20,000 baht upon arrival in Thailand, travelers may be asked for proof of funds by immigration officers at their discretion. Experiences among travelers vary widely, with some reporting they were never asked to show cash while others noted that certain immigration officers enforce the rule more strictly. Having cash on hand is generally recommended to avoid potential issues.

Is it actual cash or can you show your account balance?
Luit *****************
If they want they can insist on cash it seems, so better not gamble
Roger **************
not sure u enter or no. now the not allowed
David ***********
If that happens to you a lot then maybe you have raised a few red flags in the past.
Darrell *********
You have a DTV approved. People that come visa exempt and try to stay for more than 180 days in a year on a tourist visa are the problem. You are living here at that point and the thais want you to apply for a long term visa
Mike **********
Indians should have to carry a bar a soap and directions how to shower and 100k baht.
Sefton ********
Is it possible ? Yes.

Is it likely ? No but more than it was 6 months ago.

Is there ever hard and fast precise published rules consistently followed at each entry point ?? No. Get used to that.

Been visiting for over 20 years and have been asked once on a border bounce from Laos. I had the money because it was one of those “moments in time” IOs where actually enforcing the rules.

As others have said IOs can refuse you for any reason even with a valid Visa. Often the reason given / scribbled in the passport is “insufficient funds”.

So the answer is do you need the 20k - probably not - until the day you do!!!
Tang *****
Never been asked in 30 years. But if they get suspicious then maybe.
Christopher ***********
@Tang ****
Can’t have been with a DTV.
Neale *********
I would screen shot your bank account the day of travel in case anyone asks
David ************************
Just ask if they take credit cards if asked for any funds.
Andrew *********
They can ask anything they want. It depends on the officer. Its always been the rule just now they are enforcing it more.

The whole thing is in response to Taksin visa/visa exempt changes of which the DTV is one. So yeah its possible to be asked. If you've got a long previous tourist visa history, look like a hippy or Indian youll more likely be asked as its always been.
Darrell *********
@Andrew ********
this was over someone who had come here and stayed too long multiple times during the year.

Remember the policy is 180 days in a year or you need a real visa
Garry ********
Can it be in USD
Christopher ***********
@Garry *******
Yes. Any major currency.

Yes 40k in Thai baht now, announced recently to keep out backpackers
James ********
Wrong 😞... it's 20,000 Thai baht in CASH any foreign currency BUT not likely to be asked if you have a DTV Visa.
Ethan ******
Never had to show cash or anything other than my passport and DTV visa
Shin ******
I came through to CNX and have come in to both airports in BKK and never had any issues, however it appears some folks are now having issues, so it's really hard to say 100%, it can also depend on the customs agent. Be pleasant smile and look well put together. Thailand is trying to get rid of freeloaders!🤷🏾‍♀️
Kool *******
It all depends on how you look. Immigration stereotypes, and profiles, and if you fit their profiles, you get extra scrutiny
Jon ********
I've never had to show any money with my DTV ?

No

Valid for visas as well. Sth not explicitly mentioned but wouldn't be surprised they are included since an almost tourist visa.

Thailand Immigration CAN ask (I not say, you will be asked)

1. valid and genuine passport

2. IF you got a visa issued, a print out

3. Print of the Thailand Digital Arrival Card tdac.immigration.go.th

4. the Boarding pass

5. Proof of onward travel within the period you get stamped into this country

6. Proof of accommodation

7. Proof of finance, 20.000 Thb (40.000 Thb for family) or equivalent currency in CASH

Not every visitor is asked to show all 7 points, it all depends on the Immigration Officer, but IF you get asked you have to show. IT saves a lot of time if you are prepared.

OR show the other comments, special the one, I'm not asked and not specified for me as DTV holder.

Than tell the Immigration Office to shut up and do as you demand but it may have consequences
AllSabaai ******
Except #3... you don't need to Print out your TDAC as long as you really done it and have it to your email and phone

Then it is ok

Because once you done it.. it showed them in system ka 🙏
Robert *******
@AllSabaai *****
Feel free to explain the Immigration Officer your view on the regulations set by his boss.
AllSabaai ******
Last... this is from Immigrant website about TDAC... photo on phone is enough

English is a difficult language, I understand as it is not my mothers tongue.

BE aware with statements if you do not understand what is written.

OR assume you think you are allowed to change Immigration regulations.

You may read this, special point 8 Step for Submit the Thailand Arrival Card

***************************************************
AllSabaai ******
Think what you think

Your opinion about us equal Zero.

Try to criticize us just to show you are right. Is as well something we don't care.

Telling we are assuming we think we can change the immigration regulations is as well your only assumption and not what we think

And as your mother language is not English then don't ack as an expert from Oxford University.

The sentence is clarifying exactly that a photo in phone for TDAC in case.it is asked by immigration to show is ok

Since TDAC start May 2025 up to now

We did not see any one get asked to show TDAC print out... if a person print it out and they take it.

That doesn't mena it is a mandatory to be a print out copy in case they ask you to show it.

Point 8.in the same link you share says

( 8. Download the Thailand Digital Arrival Card. You can also download or print a copy from the email address provided for the duration of your stay in Thailand.) The sentence is so clear that download ( or ) print there is no must be print

And again.. we told you we don't care what you think or what idea you adopt.

So stop addressing us comments to try to show you are right because we don't care ka

Enjoy your Sunday without annoying others

@AllSabaai *****
you CAN get asked for a printed copy of the TDAC, signed by you in blue ink, among other copies of other documents, when you apply for the 30-days touristic extension, or for the 1-year extension of the stay permit. I don't say you will, I also say you can. As in the old days when the TM6 still existed, you had to give Immigration a signed in blue ink printed copy of your TM6 arrival&departure card. Now the TDAC is done online, but it still maybe will get asked from you to supply a printed copy on Immigration when you apply for an extension
AllSabaai ******
@Andreas ********
we are talking about enter at airport

We are not talking about Extension visa exemption or TR.

Thank you
Andreas *********
@AllSabaai *****
Haven’t you understood? Most definitely you will have to supply a printed copy of your most recent TDAC on Immigration when you apply for an extension of the stay permit, be it as a tourist or be it for a longterm stay permit . . . . . I run a visa advice group, and I have received two reports from last week, entry at the BKK airport, had to show the TDAC. One showed it on the smartphone screen, and the other one showed the printed copy. Myself I entered in September, I have a printed TDAC copy, because I expect to be asked to show it to Immigration next week, when I apply for my annual extension of stay
AllSabaai ******
@Andreas ********
good luck

And it clearly you don't get what we mean.

We said a copy on the phone is accepted in case you get asked for TDAC to show at airport.

This is the topic .

And we are not discussing here visa extension...

Regards...
Andreas *********
@AllSabaai *****
and I said I show them a printed TDAC at the airport, because I will need a printed copy anyways when I go for my extension application. A printed TDAC will be accepted at the airport, no need to carry it around on an electronic device that can break down or crash at any given moment
AllSabaai ******
@Andreas ********
it is your choice to print it out at airport and we show you that it is ok to show photo email file in case even get asked to show it and the photo screenshot from the immigration website is up there you can go and see. So please stop this discussion.

Do whatever you wish.

We don't care who adopt what methods.

Everyone is free to do what he find it ok to him.

Have a good day ka
AllSabaai ******
@Robert ******
i don't need to explain any , because

1- i don't need TDAC

2- it is our work and since TDAC started Non of all our clients has been ever requested for TDAC print out

3- if you want to believe this. We have no obligation to that... up to you. We don't care to convince anyone
Robert *******
@AllSabaai *****
What part of: "CAN ask (I not say, you will be asked)"

and "Not every visitor is asked to show all 7 points,"

Did you not understand?

But thanks for acknowledgement of my correct statement, by confirming that your customers did not get asked all 7 point which CAN be asked.
AllSabaai ******
We did not give you any acknowledgement about any statement of you is correct.

And when we said our customers menas any one ,we served for any type of visa during his stay and travel in and out .

Stop trying to play the ( Mr. EXPERT) role , you won't get any medal for this.

Neither us are looking for a medal too.

We are just stating an information and it is officially mentioned in the Immigration website. A photo is enough if even they ask to show.

End of this discussion

It still amazes how "toxic" people can become on social media. If people would risk a "punch in the face" as in real life, I assume they would be more mindful how to respond. Wow! 💥🙏🏼

If you are unlucky and get an IO that’s having a bad day. Or has a mandate to be extra strict on the rules. They might ask for proof of funds to support your stay. One of the few actual official laws of Thailand that allows them to legally deny you entry is not having the required funds to support your stay. Even though they might say the reason is something else like too many entries. The official reason will be lack of funds. People coming in on any kind of exempt or other visa. If you have an outbound flight and 20k+ cash. It is very rare for them to actually refuse you entry. Saying that. It’s not actually a requirement for people on a DTV to have either of these things. But your entry is at the discretion of the IO at the time and if they decide to apply rules designed for other types of visas/exemption. To you on a DTV there is nothing you can do about it. In these uncertain times be safe. Have 20k+ cash with you. And if they ask for a flight they will allow you to book one on your phone in the immigration office. So plan ahead and find an airline with a 100% refund policy and be ready to book if you are unlucky and they ask.
Justin ********
Carrying money is a requirement for visa exempt tourists, never a requirement specified for the DTV. But then again, the country doesn't seem to have any sort of fixed laws like the rest of the world who knows what kinda crap they'll try to pull next!

@Justin *******
Wrong. It applies to any foreigner.

@Justin *******
. They can ask anyone. The DTV isnt wanted by the Authorities. It was a troll by Taksin same as endless 60 day visa exempts. Its these visa changes that have caused the clampdown in response. They can ask anyone and they have for years, the rule isnt something new. They are most likely as they always have done targeting long tourist visa histories, beach bum/hippy looks or India and other stereotyped countries.
John **********
@Justin *******
not just for visa exempt tourists
Justin ********
@John *********
Officially it is so you can't find written official statements it can be demanded as a condition of entry for anyone else. Now are they making arbitrary demands of people? I dunno
