TLDR : Answer Summary
Australian passport holders do not qualify for a Visa on Arrival, but they are eligible for a 60-day visa exemption upon entering Thailand. This means they can stay in the country for up to 60 days without a visa, and they have the option to extend their stay for an additional 30 days at Thai Immigration for a fee.

Yes and no. Yes you can stay 60 days with Australian passport. No - it's NOT a visa. It's a visa exempt, meaning you do NOT need a visa upon entry. Kapish?

Yes. But people will carry on about wording
Yes. You can stay for 60 days.

It's not a Visa..
It's actually a free Visa exemption entry for up to 60 days.
Your passport will be stamped with the end date of the 60 days and no other paperwork or application is required...Just your passport

Just follow the "Visa On Arrival" signs at the airport
I was being facetious. I get sick of the "experts" failing to advise those asking the questions that Visa Exempt and Visa On Arrival are two totally separate things.

Surely it takes more time to find a group on Facebook , get accepted , write a question, wait for it to be posted and get an answer than just to find out this answer online.
I was one of those people who hated it when people answered with just use google but in some situations it really is that simple.

Here's a question say you want to stay 80 days so you have a flight out 80 days after arrival...has anyone had any experience doing this? As in do immigration give you hard time when entering if they ask to see your onward ticket and you can only get stamped in for 60 days?
strange how explaining they are 2 completely different things upsets some people. One is a visa certain passport holders buy on entry, the other a 60 day stay with NO visa at all. ๐
it does make a difference. Totally. Why tell people completely wrong information? It's quite ridiculous to argue that a VISA on arrival is same as entering with NO visa on an exemption.
thebdiggerence does matter. Tour advice would see people queue at a visa on arrival desk when it doesn't apply to them. Not only that, but most, if not all, visa on arrival cannot be extended. It's like me selling you a mini and telling you it's the same as a porsche.
You are correct about getting 60 days entry in Thailand as an Australian passport holder, but it is called visa exempt, visa on arrival is totally different altogether, just to correct your terminology.

Yes you'll get 60 days mate plus the option of extending it by another 30 days for an extra 1900 baht at Thai Immigration when you get here. So 90 days total is possible.
