TLDR : Answer Summary
You cannot apply for a new 30-day visa upon arrival on your initial 30-day tourist visit. However, you can apply for a 30-day or 60-day extension for specific reasons, or you may apply for a 90-day NON-O visa if you meet certain qualifications, such as family connections or financial requirements.

You can’t apply for a 30 day visa in Thailand. You can apply for a 30 or 60 day extension (the latter being for visiting Thai family). You can also apply for a 90 day non O visa in Thailand but you’d need to qualify for the reason that may be issued, like marriage, family or being over 50 - and the financial requirements needed for such.

in order to get married you need a notarized "right to marry" form. On the form are three choices, divorced, never married, and widowed. In your case check the never married box, as they do not investigate. I was in an identical situation, and did as I explained, and have been married now for almost six years. If you check any other box, you will have to provide documentation to support your situation. After you are married a type O visa extension, Thai wife, has a financial requirement of just bt400,000 in your account for just two months before you apply, and it can come from anywhere, then as soon as you get your one year extension you can do anything you want with all the money, and just have to have it back in your bank account at least two months before you apply for your next one year extension.

interesting, thank you for the advise. i am in Vietnam with my Thai partner looking to go back to Thailand. My divorce papers are somewhere in a storage container in the UK so not having to go back to the UK and hunt for them would be good

if you’re not married you can’t apply for the non O based on marriage. You can apply for the non O based on being over 50. The financials are different but basically the same visa/extension routine.

800k?

@Andrew **************
the above reference to 800k applies to the fact your profile data infers you’re from the UK. If that’s not the case then please advise nationality as that could change things for you depending on whether your embassy would issue a affidavit of income statement. The British (and US and Australian) embassies won’t.

800,000 Thai baht.

Only need 400k if you’re married, but Thailand doesn’t recognise civil partnerships as yet. You’d need to be married.

to apply in country for a Non O visa you need to have transferred 800k in to a Thai bank in your name only. Needs to be seen to have come from abroad. Once you have that visa then when it’s near the end you can apply for an extension of stay for a year. The 800k must have been in your bank for 2 months prior, stay in 3 months after and the balance can’t go below 400k for the rest of the year. There is an option of having 12 monthly international deposits of 65k or more in to your Thai bank for the extension but you can’t do that in the first year if you haven’t had the deposits.
