Hi. It seems now UK passport holders get a 60 day on arrival visa. If a visitor wishes to stay 62 days is it possible to extend the 60 days or will they need a 60 day tourist to extend? TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
UK passport holders can enter Thailand for 60 days on a visa-exempt entry. They can extend this period by 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 THB. However, if only a 2-day overstay is needed, it may be cheaper to pay an overstay fine of 1000 THB instead of applying for an extension.
If you are over staying only 2 days just pay the fine on leaving. I went to the Chiang Mia immigration office to extend for the exact same reason. The nice helper said to me why pay 1900 thb ? for an extension when I could pay 1000 thb for 2 days overstay. He even gave me paper work saying what happens for how many days you overstay and basically up to 90 days you don't get banned then 90 - 120 I think was a years ban and it goes up from there.
I know what you are saying and that's the exact reason I went to immigration to get an extension. Once there they all but refused to give me an extension for 2 days overstay and even gave me paperwork to keep as I just wanted an extension that is official print out that lists what effect each length of over stay has in future entry. I have that paperwork somewhere as I kept it in case I was refused re entry this year which I wasn't. The bloke at immigration was extremely clear and spoke very good english and was adamant it would in no way affect me getting a visa to live in Thailand. I always do things by the book so made sure and asked him many times if was o.k.
Unfortunately one person from immigration can tell you one thing but then another interpret it a completely different way. Personally I wouldnโt want an overstay of any amount on my record just incase you meet that one immigration officer at the Airport who sees it another way.

Of course if you do something stupid and get arrested you will be banned. That's a no brainer.
You can be stopped at a road side check not doing anything stupid and even possibly on the way to the airport to leave.

Nope, UK passport holders don't get any 60 day arrival visa. ๐ฎ ๐
However with that being said; Brits can show up here without any visa and get stamped in for 60 days on free stamp on what's called a visa exempt entry. (y) ๐
It's not a visa on arrival, it's not a visa at all, but it is a free 60 day entry stamp ๐
AND
you can indeed extend one time for 30 days for 1900baht at the immigration office serving where you stay.
best of luck with it sir, safe travels (y) Don't forget to fill out the online TDAC (Thailand Digital Arrival Card), you can do it from 3 days before your flight right on down to when you're standing in the arrival hall (they have kiosks there)
