Hi all, I have a question regarding the prospect of converting my wife's 60-day SETV to a Non-O follower/trailing/dependent visa in-country:
I am currently on a teacher Non-B visa, and my school has begun the process of applying for my work permit. As far as I understand (based on the info sheet supplied by Immigration: [members only]), my wife will not be able to convert her visa until I have my one-year extension and my work permit.
Given our situation, and the prospect of work permit processing taking a fair bit of time, I have two questions:
1. Provided I receive my work permit well before my visa expiration, how early would I be able to apply for an extension of stay? (I saw a previous post mentioning that the extension can be applied for as early as 30-45 days (45 days at CM, where I am located).)
1. If necessary, would my wife be able to apply for a 30-day extension of stay before her 60 days run out, and then convert to the Non-O once I receive my extension?
Grateful for your advice :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on converting their wife's 60-day SETV to a Non-O dependent visa while waiting for their own work permit and extension. They question how soon they can apply for an extension once their work permit is granted and whether their wife can request a 30-day extension before her current visa expires. Responses indicate that the user can apply for an extension 45 days prior to expiration, and that the wife may extend her stay based on tourism, depending on her nationality.

CM allows you to apply for an extension when you have 45 days or less. So 45 days before the date on your current stamp is the earliest day you can apply.
Your wife can apply for a 30-day extension based on tourism if she needs it and her nationality is not from one of the restricted countries for tourism extension.
You have to talk to your school/employer for detailed procedures for her application, as your school needs to agree to support your wife's visa and provide documents from the school.
