Can I apply for a dependent's visa while my partner is converting their tourist visa to a Non-Immigrant Type-O in Thailand?

Hi,

My partner is in going to apply to convert from a 60 day tourist visa to an 90 day Non-Immigrant Type-O based on retirement, which we then hope can be extended for one year at a time. As I'm under 50 years of age, I will be applying for a dependent's visa. My question is whether I can apply for this while he has the three month visa, or whether he has to have received the 12-month extension already?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question pertains to whether one can apply for a dependent's visa while their partner is in the process of converting a 60-day tourist visa to a 90-day Non-Immigrant Type-O visa based on retirement. Responses indicate that it may be possible to apply at the same time, depending on the specific immigration office's policies. Applicants need to check with their local immigration office, and it's important to have at least 15 days left on their current visa for an in-country application.

SOME immigration offices will let the "trailing spouse" file for a 90 day Non-O visa when their partner applies for theirs and some will not.

I'd say go to your immigration office and ask if it can be done inside the country.

Remember most offices require you to have at least 15 days left on your current 'admitted until' stamp to apply for an in country Non-O. Because it goes under consideration for 14 days before you go back and get the visa inked into your passport. Note; Chiang Mai requires 21 days left on your stamp to do this.

The 90day Non-O costs 2000baht.

I don't know but the people out there in section C-1 <- the section that issues Non-Immigrant Type visas will know for sure and give you a hand out as far as what is required if you can do it.

I'd stop out there and check BEFORE you're going to try for it. That section isn't busy and you shouldn't have a long wait at all.

Thanks Tod. We'll be applying in Bangkok, any chance you know whether they allow the partner to apply for the 90-day visa as well?
