TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about their brother's situation regarding a 30-day free visa waiver expiring on December 3rd. Responses indicated that he could apply for a 30-day tourism extension on December 4th, with the caveat that he would receive a stamp indicating overstay, but the fine would likely be waived due to office closures. Additionally, it was suggested to avoid applying on busy days such as Mondays and Fridays, especially since December 5th is a public holiday.
Whilst he can do it on Monday 4th he’s probably better off doing it on Thursday or Friday. Many immigration offices are busy on a Monday or Friday, because of the weekend, but as Tuesday 5th is a public holiday I suspect that the 4th will be super busy at many offices. There is no downside to going early for an exempt extension. They add on the days to your existing stamp.
He can go on Monday to apply for a 30-day tourism extension as usual. He will get the stamp mentioning overstay but the fine is waived due to the office closure.
Better not wait until the very last day. A 30-day tourism extension is added to the current stamp (top-up), he wouldn't lose any day from that 30 days even if he applies in advance. We always tell members not to plan to overstay.
sorry I didn’t know the technical term. As I’m here on a yearly extension I’m unsure of the term. I’ve messaged my brother and I’m truly grateful for your message . Much appreciated
