Does anyone happen to know if I obtain a DTV and sponsor my son on it (He’s 20 yrs old) will his Visa be good for 5yrs as well? Or will it only be good until he’s 21? Thanks in advance 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question pertains to whether a 20-year-old son can be sponsored on a DTV visa for a full 5 years or if his visa will expire when he turns 21. Community responses indicate that dependents must be under 20 years of age, leading to uncertainty about sponsorship for a 20-year-old. Additionally, a follow-up question regarding a 17-year-old daughter suggests that her dependent visa would also be valid only until she turns 20, although one comment states that DTVs are generally issued for 5 years regardless of age limit.
Follow on question… Since I also have a 17yr old. Would her dependent Visa only be good until she turns 20? Meaning I would be paying the full cost of a DTV for her but she would only receive 3 of the 5 yr time allotment?
Embassies don't really have a mechanism to issue a visa for less than the legally mandated duration. The DTV law states that a DTV is valid for 5 years. So it should be issued for 5 years.
- On the Visa info it said under 20- so I wasn’t sure if it meant 20 and under. It also says that kids can attend school on the DTV so I had assumed that meant college as well considering the age limit.
