Can my son change to a dependent visa after turning 18 if he is enrolled in an online course?

My husband has a work visa, as he is teaching at a school. My 18 year old son will graduate from school in the next few months and will study an overseas course online. I would like to know if my son can then change to a dependant visa after he graduates, if he is over 18 years of age? If not, I need to investigate feasible visa options for him.

Thank you for your time.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user's son, who is 18 and about to graduate, is inquiring about the possibility of switching to a dependent visa after finishing school. A respondent mentioned that children can remain dependent on a parent's visa until the age of 20, suggesting coordination with the husband's employer and the son's current school to facilitate the transition. This change may involve specific paperwork and permissions.

Children can be "piggy-backed" on to a parents visa/extension until they are 20.

You need to talk to your husbands employer and the child's school to see if it's possible to switch inside the country from an extension based on education to one based on being the child of a foreigner who legally works here.

I have never heard of anyone changing an extension for that reason (which doesn't mean it can't be done, just that I never heard of it).

It would have to be done in coordination with your husband's employer and the school the child currently has the ED visa extension under so that the proper documentation can be gotten from both places (cancellation of extension paperwork from the school and permission to allow a dependent child to piggy back on your husbands Non-B extension)
