Can I work in Thailand on a child's Non-O visa, or do I need to switch to another visa type?

I was wondering if some one can help me on this.

I just got a 12 month ovisa as I have a child in Thailand, I'm not married.

This visa does allow me to work.

I have just been offered a job through a Boi company and they have said that the Boi do not like o visa for looking after a child.

And that I may need to change.

Does any know anything about this?

And if I do have to change do I need to leave the country?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the complexities of working in Thailand on a Non-O visa, specifically in the context of an expatriate with a child in Thailand who wishes to work legally. There are concerns about the compatibility of this visa with employment in a BOI company. While some comments suggest that it might be possible to obtain a work permit under the Non-O visa, the original poster is apprehensive about job security and the implications for their visa status should employment cease. Key issues raised include the necessity of changing the visa type, potential travel to a Thai embassy for reapplication, and inconsistencies in the rules communicated by employers.

I have to change my visa too, but if the job will close shop, I will just go to thai embassy in Laos, and apply again for NON "O"

You can indeed hold a work permit on a Non-O extension based on supporting children.

I would say go to the Cham Churi Square One Stop Immigration Service Center (which handles BOI visas, extensions and work permits) and ask them yourself.

That's where your work permit would come from anyway.

I think your employer isn't wanting you to hold your own extension because then if you lost your job you wouldn't lose your current extension seeing as it's not based on employment (meaning they lose some "control" over you)..

400 k in the bank, all the flights and the paper work etc.

First get a 3 month then extend to a 12 month.

From the advice I have hear I can work on this visa.

Should be no need to change, the visa.

But I will have to wait and see

If you want to work legal in thailand u NEED a workpermit !

I would rather just get a work permit on my o visa that does let me work.

Expensive and time consuming and stressful to get a non o each time my job closes down.

Head hunting is not a good industry in Thailand unfortunately

if they are fussy get them provide all the papers and go to a Thai embassy in a close country and get a NON "B", then they can handle it from there

I really don't want a non b.

If they close the job, I lose my visa and would have to leave my child,

I would prefer to have some control over the ability to stay with her.

This is why I got the o visa.

I had three jobs over hear in the past year and all three of the jobs closed the offices.

with your visa you are not allowed to work , but u can apply for a work permit on non o (based on child), your company admin seems not to know about the rules. its definitely possible
