Hi there, is is possible to get a work permit on a Non-Immigrant O visa, based on marriage to an expat working here in Thailand? Or do you have to change to a Non-Immigrant B visa for this? Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around whether one can obtain a work permit while holding a Non-Immigrant O visa based on being married to another expat in Thailand. Several comments share differing experiences and opinions, with some asserting that a Non-O visa does not allow for a work permit, while others mention that it might be possible in certain cases. It is advised to consult directly with the Ministry of Labor for an official answer.

As seen that people start commenting and mixing up the reason why a Non Immigrant O is given and the correct answer is given by Tod I close this thread to avoid further confusion.

If you are on a "trailing spouse" visa/extension meaning you are here because you're married to another foreigner who legally works here on the correct visa and work permit the answer is no.

You can't hold a work permit on that visa/extension and would need to get your own Non-B based on your employment.

Yes will do, thanks

I'm not sure, so I can't help you with a clear yes or no. If you walk in Ministry of Labor just ask to apply for WP, bring your passport, they will ask what visa or extension you have, show them and you have first hand answer.

Haven't applied yet, just getting conflicting information from different sources about whether I'd need to change to a B visa first. Was wondering if anyone had any experience with this here

What did the Ministry of Labor told you when you applied for the work permit?
