Hi everyone, need some advice on transferring 800,000 THB to my Kasikorn account to season it for 2 months for my first 1-year extension after the initial 90 days on a Non-O visa.

I want to use Wise to save on fees - what's the best way: send THB via Wise's local payout, or send USD via Wise's SWIFT channel?

How critical is it for Chiang Mai Immigration that the transfer is marked as FTT / international, and which method guarantees it will be coded as such and that I can get a Credit Advice for it?
Answer summary
The poster seeks advice on transferring 800,000 THB to a Kasikorn bank account to meet the requirements for a Non-O visa extension. They are considering using Wise and want to know whether sending THB directly or USD via SWIFT is better, especially concerning the transfer being marked as international. Community responses suggest that while proof of source may not be strictly required, for the first extension, it may be advantageous to make the transfer labeled as an international source. Users shared experiences indicating that Wise's recent method involving local banks may not fulfill this requirement, whereas transferring USD via SWIFT is often preferred. Other methods of transfer, and opinions on fees and processing times, were discussed.

If you are using the 800.000 Baht bank account option it doesn’t matter where the money is coming from as long it’s long enough in your account. 😊

I did this exact transaction 1 week ago. I transferred directly from Wise into my Kasikorn account. the fee was approximately $130 usd. the advantage was i did the transaction whilst at the bank, the funds were in my account in seconds and shown in my new bank book.

I thought it was only when you use the income method that you have to show the money comes from abroad?

From all accounts Thai immigration don't care about where the money came from just has to be in an account with your name for the two months.

I recommend using a domestic wire to transfer $ from source to your Wise USD account, then using Wise to Kbank THB account to deposit the 800K baht. All Wise transfers to Kbank are documented as foreign transfers, which is mandatory for the first annual extension. You can get a stamped statement to this effect from Kbank. Wise will transfer up to 2M baht to Kbank (and SCB too), although I’ve not done higher than 200K, in one transfer. I just did all this for my wife’s visa exactly as I described.

WISE no longer shows as international. They use local bank as Intermediary now. Must transfer by SWIFT in your countries currency. The first transfer of funds must show it came from international source. Not necessarily for renewals.

People do realise that SWIFT is merely an inter bank payment mechanism.. it is not a commercial bank and does not conduct banking business in the public domain.. so when transferring money internationally between your bank accounts the exchange rate and any transaction fees are set by the remitting bank and not by SWIFT.. unless you remit funds in your home currency in which case the overseas bank will set the exchange rate once the funds are received.. and may even levy a handling (aka admin) fee as well.. my point is that talking about SWIFT as if it's an organisation you can personally use for your fx transactions is misleading.. it's the medium by which banks currently move money.. and the likes of Wise still have to use it in order to complete transactions.. the only difference is that the exchange rate and any applicable fees are set by them for the outgoing transfer rather than by your bank.. just clarifying in case any newbies are following the thread 😉

I found that a swift transfer for larger amounts is cheaper overall than wise. After a certain amount, wise is more expensive than swift because they charge a percentage of the money sent, not a flat fee plus a bit off the top in exchange rate like swift.

Proof of 800k for extension does not need to show as international transfer.
