TLDR : Answer Summary
The community discusses the new option offered by Wise for international money transfers, particularly regarding documentation for Thai immigration purposes. Users share experiences about the importance of having funds documented as coming from abroad, which is crucial for visa applications and financial proof required by Thai authorities. There is some confusion about recent changes and the necessity of specific documentation when transferring money to Thailand. Users have varied experiences, with some claiming immigration does not care about transfer origins as long as funds are in the account for a specified time.
I stopped using Wise because, because if I selected before, funds long stay in Thailand, it became an international transfer. Since September, I had to stop, as it no longer was considered as one. If I can use Wise again, I save money, but have to be sure.
Martin Mairesse that only happened once, the month of September. All other transfers are, and have been coded correctly. Immigration was aware of that issue and didn’t even flinch when I submitted my statements.
Mark Briggs consider that it may be related to the visa and it might also relate to filing the income tax return in Thailand, as one is taxable resident after 180 calendar days in Thailand in a year
Alan Bow you need to show the money came from abroad. You can do this with a "Confirmation Letter of International Fund Transfer" from the bank it hits first, if it's not your own bank. Wise has a page explaining it, I think they explain it if you say yes to that question.
Stephen there is a new additional question that asks if you need proof it's an international transfer. I think it just tells you how to get the confirmation if you select it, not sure it changes the routing. You can get a "Confirmation Letter of International Fund Transfer" from the bank it hits first if it's not your own bank.
Rob Findlay I'm looking at the Wise app now and all I'm seeing is instructions on how to obtain the FET from your bank, there's nothing about Wise providing any document
Rob Findlay The reason for transfer "Funds for long stay in Thailand" has been there for about 6-7 years. It was the late Joe Green who liaised with Wise to get this facility in place. It only works with Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank. The transfers to Bangkok Bank come through as FTT, which immigration know is the code for a foreign transfer
Stephen Howell you are not understanding the point I am making. Go back and read the comment I initially replied to. Wise are now offering a document to show that the transfer came from overseas.
Stephen Howell no, it was an option that appeared while setting up the transfer. It asked if a document stating that it was an international transfered was required. It was the first time I had seen it.
Rob Findlay Have you got a copy of this document you can show? I've always been able to download a copy of the transfer advice which shows the amount transferred in Australian dollars, and the amount received in Thai Baht, so I'm wondering how this new document differs from that?
Stephen Howell I think you’d have to go thru the procedure of transferring the money, after you have the conformation off your bank, you go back to wise & it definitely comes up
Alan Bow not for those who need to do the financial proof with 12-months of transfers from abroad of a minimum of 65,000 THB, month for month, not missing out any month. THESE PEOPLE need the transfer CODED in their bankbook as having come from abroad. Immigration will ACCEPT it!
