What are the alternatives to Wise for sending money from the U.S. to Thailand after TTB stopped accepting remittances?

I was using Wise to send money from the U.S. to my wife's account in Thailand (TTB). Any suggestions for a replacement since Wise says "this bank no longer accepts cross-border remittances." Does this mean Wise or all electronic transfer systems?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported issues with using Wise to send money to their wife's TTB account in Thailand due to a message indicating the bank no longer accepts cross-border remittances. Suggestions from others included opening an account at a different bank that accepts Wise transfers, using alternative services like Bangkok Bank, Western Union, Remitly, and MoneyGram, and waiting for updates from TTB regarding possible reinstated acceptance of transfers. There are also comments about other methods such as XE.com and PayPal, along with discussions on recent changes affecting international money transfers.

Wise has stopped working in the US. Wise is probably the issue not the bank.

XE
Pete ********
Get her to open a wise account in her name!

Check with US branch of Bangkok bank and see if they can help with opening a Thailand BKB account from here.

So all money transfer companies are in the same boat then.

The banks not listed to accept yet are just behind the 8 ball and a little slow changing to the new system.
Steve **********
I use remitly

Just spitballing here but would the New York branch of Bangkok bank work? The OP can open an account there while in the US.
Kevin **********
@Mary *******
No, they can't. I tried that. You still need to be physically present in Thailand
Mark ********
@Mary *******
you spitball missed. A person can not open account at Bangkok Bank in NYC.

They only do business or corporate accounts.

I just when tried 3 weeks ago to open account in U,S

Try using Xe International money transfer

If you're sending funds from the US the only bank you can use is Bangkok Bank because they have a ABA transaction number all other banks used to Swift system. With my VIP status I can wire transfer funds to Bangkok Bank for free now You have to use wire transfer ACH numbers are no longer accepted.

I'm from the UK, and I use kapook to transfer money to my partner(don't know if there is a US app) however it's much more cheaper than Western Union and Moneywise, money usually transfered in minutes.
Daniel ************
these banks all good to use with wise
Kim ********

MoneyGram works great, and has been working great for me sending from Canadian bank to a Thai frequently for years.
Mart ****
whenever i have sent funds from wise uk to my thai acc it shows as a local transfer. i assumed wise had an account with a thai bank here
Graham ******
@Mart ***
You need to select the last item in this drop down menu for it to show as an international transfer
Nick ************
@Mart ***
it is more likely to show as ftt if you send to 1 of 3 banks one of which is Bangkok Bank. If this is what you need then get Wise to tag your account. I have had successful transfers marked as international monthly for the last 15 months to BB.
Pedro *******
There is a list of wise accepted banks
Steve ********
TTB will be accepted within the next two weeks they said. Just waiting for the update

@Steve *******
Who are “they”? Wise ? I didn’t see any statement from them suggesting that …

TTB said it in a statement!

Did you try to send more than 50,000B because -

There is a limit of 50,000 Baht in international transfers for people who use Wise to transfer the money and only for people using a bank other than Bangkok Bank, Siam Commercial Bank or Kasikorn Bank.

My backup is Western Union, Remitly or Moneygram. I checked the rates on all three and choose the one that's giving me the best payout at that moment

Why doesn't your wife open a new account at an accepted bank? Then they could either transition to using that bank, or just transfer the money from that account to their TTB account.

We're in the U.S., we'd have to fly back to Thailand to change bank accounts and we only use this account to pay expenses on her house in Samut Prakan. It's about $5k USD for us to fly to Bangkok which seems steep to just change an account. Moreover, even though she has a green card, it's dangerous for a foreign resident to leave the U.S. for any reason right now.
Brandon ************
@David *********
I saw someone say that TTB will be re-added to Wise in a few weeks. I have no way to know if that's true or not
Frank **********
@Brandon ***********
Yes Ria Money transfer

Great rates
Wayne ********
@Frank *********
it’s not the transfer company that is changing. It’s the accepted banks Thailand now has a list of about eight banks that will only accept foreign transfers.
Frank **********
Set it up .40 more in cash or more

Because sometimes the obvious is not so obvious 😂

There could be legitimate reasons. They might live in a very rural area without any banks nearby, so it would be difficult to open a new account. They might be blackballed from other banks. But just wanted to make the suggestion since for Thai people it's relatively easy to open bank accounts normally.
