What visa options do I have as a US citizen looking to retire in Thailand and how can I demonstrate proof of income without the embassy?

I am a US citizen residing in Spain and headed to Thailand next week on a 60-day e-visa. After I return to Spain, I will decide whether I want to retire in Thailand and get a retirement visa. Two issues: I am healthy but age 70 and would prefer to avoid the expense of medical insurance. I can apply from Spain or Thailand - which type visa would work best - O or O-A? Also, Thailand wants a proof of income letter from the embassy, but the US Embassy doesn’t issue these anymore. What alternative is acceptable? Many thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is a US citizen currently residing in Spain, planning to visit Thailand with a 60-day e-visa and considering a retirement visa (O or O-A) afterwards. There are concerns about mandatory health insurance for the O-A visa and the need for proof of income, which is difficult due to the US embassy's current policies. Alternatives suggested include putting 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account for the Non-O visa and consulting local immigration offices for specific requirements.

Non Imm OA health insurance is mandatory, but not with Non Imm O.

As you can't get a proof of income letter from your embassy your only option to get a Non-O visa inside Thailand is to put 800k baht into a Thai bank account in your name only. You'll also need this for the annual extension. Best is you visit your local immigration office on arrival and ask them for their requirements

I assume FROM your Post

That you have a Thai tourist visa you bought in Spain!?? Is that TRUE ?

Or are you planning to enter Thailand VISA EXEMPT ENTRY for 30 days STAMP on arrival plus One 30 day extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht ???

If you have a Thai Tourist Visa...

Suggest you enter Thailand as planned with your SETV single entry tourist visa you now have... that gets you 60 days STAMP on arrival into Thailand.

I obtained a 60 day e-visa while in Spain, where I reside.
