Maybe not the place for this question but here goes.....Finally given up on hoping to get vaccinated here. Next week I fly to NYC via Ethiad. I am 71 and survived stage 4 cancer so although not paranoid I would like as much β spaceβ as possible on my flight . I would never fly business class ( before Covid) and my ticket next week is economy.......my question.....once I get to the airport can I upgrade the portion of my ticket going to USA.....once vaccinated economy is fine by me. When booking upgrading only half a flight was not an option. Does anyone have factual knowledge of this possibility? ApprecAppreciate your feedback.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual is seeking advice on the possibility of upgrading their Etihad flight to the USA at the airport, especially considering their age and health circumstances. Responses indicate that upgrades are generally possible at check-in if availability permits, and it has been suggested to check seat availability online beforehand or inquire directly with airline staff at the airport. Additionally, some users share their experiences of flying during off-peak times and highlight the likelihood of additional space in economy.
Many airlines will let you do that at the counter. The trick will be is anything available. Maybe try calling the airlines and asking? Also when you check in see if they will let you change your economy seat to an unoccupied row. When I flew out here I did that and had a whole row to myself.....laid out and slept!
The very first thing you should do is go to the airlines web site and check the seat availability on all of your flights. That will show you how empty or full your flights are and you can decide what to do from there.
I flew to the US three weeks ago. 1st leg 787 20 passengers and the 2nd one 787 70-80 passengers.
Before you pay to upgrade check out the seat availability on the whole plane including premium economy.
I agree Anthony but the seat map was not available...maybe exactly for that reason......I got economy round trip for $743 Bkk to NYC....I think a good price.
Sometimes the seat map is available to frequent flyer members. Your other options are : Go to their website and book a one way ticket. Many airlines show the seating map before the payment option. Option #2 call the airline..... Good luck!
I tend to agree but if I found out I could have had three sets in the back to sleep in....I would not be happy.....life is strange, I spend money on good food and good wine and go cheap in other areas...??
i totally understand where you are coming from sir... i was the same. And eternally thankful i tried things differently. Either way, i wish you an amazing trip
You can always upgrade at the full price. In normal times sometimes you could have one for free if lucky. If they overbooked their flight (what most companies as hotels do, calculating last cancels into the system) Free upgrade as first class or business is not full, cost them less than have a call on the gate to pay new ticket, hotel and give extra pocketmoney for dubbel booked seats... So don't believe when you got a free upgrade it si because you look so important... π But I wouldn't count on that in these times on long distance flights .... But half a flight upgrade you should ask on the desc if they have one manned and is possible... You have 2 boarding passes anyway if you make a stopover...
why? Flying to thailand is a new start. Coe etc etc nobody cares how you flew to the US. Do not even have to mention it if you decide to apply for flying to Thailand
yes but question was about flying to the usa and your reply was about returning to thailand. My answer was on returning to thailand too. No special extra costs exept the well know costs for entering thailand.
I have done it on the airplane. I let the flight attendant know as I boarded I would be interested in an upgrade if seats are available. There were. I did.
Flew etihad BKK to Abu Dhabi to Chicago just last week. The flights were maybe 20% full and the passengers were all spaced out. You may already have plenty of room. But you can certainly talk it over with the staff when you check in.
